It's always nice to discover things that completely passed me by, because I'd never heard of the game before and now that I've finished it, I can only say that I'm very pleasantly surprised. As a result I immediately added 35MM and 7th Sector to my Wishlist, now i'm hooked in what else this developer has in store. But it wasn't survival horror in my opinion, yea it's dark and oppressive from time to time, but harmless. In The Light we walk through the dilapidated remains of a former life, through and around an abandoned building shell. I used to explore real lost places a lot and I think the game reflect the atmosphere quite well but deals with very serious issues, which are unfortunately still very topical. I had no problem at all with most of the puzzles, but then there were two where I only solved one by pure chance and the other I had to look up and wondered if I would ever have solved it on my own, I mean probably would have done it eventually ; ) With the combinations of the locks you just have to look for clues and try them out, luckily it worked relatively quickly for me. The music/soundtrack and melodies always manage to evoke different moods, fit incredibly well and I also liked the sound design.

I loved this game up to the point that I've played through it for a couple of times to get all the achievements. It's basically a walking simulator but much better than the typical games of this genre where you are stuck in an apartment and keep walking through the same four rooms for an hour to trigger some events. The Light Remake looks stunning. The devs definitely put effort into many small but beautiful or unsettling effects. The sounds and music are amazing as well and especially the part in the underground bunker is claustrophobic and terrifying. The feeling of being stuck in a sitution like that is perfectly shown and you can easily imagine how death could have been the better option. Without telling too much, you are playing some kind of survivor or lost soul that is stuck in a run down school building after some fictional bombing event set in modern Russia. The eerie atmosphere and solitude are making this short game a true masterpiece and I can easily recommend it for the price. Playtime is about 2 hours for the first playthrough but it can easily be speedran in 30 minutes for completion. The message will leave you thinking... alot.

Very short game but well done. Surely the graphics and the setting are what fascinate the most. At the beginning it is a bit boring but then it takes a good pace. Price adequate to the duration. My rating 7/10

Alright. The Light Remake is done and dusted. This is a pretty cool walking simulator meets lite puzzle game with the elements of horror. The horror is ever only implied, but there are a couple moments that make you wonder. I could be mistaken, but this seems to be set in Russia during what is implied to be a bombing event, and taking what I know from having played 35MM from the same developer, I'd say it is consistent with the theme of an apocalyptic setting. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3246689819 You are a nameless protagonist, and bit by bit, you begin to unravel the mystery of what happened to the people who preceded you. There is an implied plot twist wherein you had been there all along, but I'm not going to dive into that. Rather, I thought the important part of this story was the clear message that all war does is kill off people who had nothing to do with anything, and that there is always the risk of it completely devastating the world. And I personally think this is an ideology shared by real human beings worldwide. Who really wants to fight and die for oligarchs who can't get along and want to reinforce what they think their lines on a map should look like? Not me. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3246689627 Visually, this is a grim and dark setting, and as the name implies, the contrast between light and dark features prominently in the game. In practice, it is the visual experience which serves to drive the game forward. The game area is relatively small and compact, and you will always be on the lookout for visual cues. There are some puzzles, and progressing the story forward generally requires finding something to unlock something which might be required to unlock something else lol. In between, you are really just exploring this little sandbox. I did get a bit stuck on a couple puzzles where I had to really hunker down and pay attention to my surroundings lol, but even still, I was able to complete the game in just under two hours. There are two endings and best I can tell, that requires two actual playthroughs, so plan accordingly if you're a completionist. The actual gameplay of walking around, interacting with stuff, and using a couple permanent items you find was fun. There were a couple instances where my guy got stuck trying to move over or around things, but nothing too concerning there. The second fuse also fell too close to the place you get it from, and it required exiting and re-entering the game to be able to pick it up. And...the one lite puzzle that requires a lighter doesn't trigger the way you would expect. If you think you need the lighter when you're playing but aren't having any luck with the action triggering, just try repositioning your body first. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3246689693 There is a controller map presented in the menu, and you can play with either a gamepad or Steam Deck. I however did just stick with k/m for this one. All told, it was an enjoyable experience, and I think you could argue that this was actually the presentation of events that led to the next game, 35MM, even though there is some spiritualism in this one and I don't know that there is a specific tie in. I'd give it a go if you have the chance.
