dev is doing himself a huge disservice still keeping phase 3-6 as a roadmap, game is finished, all phases are delivered. im not a metroidvania guru nor im very experienced in these type of games, but i had a blast, there are some moments (like one or two) when you will get your butt kicked, well, just get good, i died at least 15 times on first boss - thinking that maybe i should go somewhere else and lvl up - nope - there is no somewhere else, you need to obliterate him. story is cool, graphics are great, you can easly traverese through entire map via anchors, upgrades in majority are meaningful. just a solid platfromer/logic/metroidvania title, get it and enjoy, no major issues observed. also if you are a dentist practitioner you will find a mini game just to fulfill your dark desires your are unable to address during normal work hours.

The Last Case of Benedict Fox is honestly a breath of fresh air if you're looking for something atmospheric and story-driven. The art direction is just stunning, capturing that dark, Lovecraftian horror vibe perfectly. Gameplay-wise, it’s a metroidvania, but not in the typical hack-and-slash sense. Here, the focus is on puzzles rather than action, which I found really refreshing. Some of the puzzles are genuinely challenging, requiring you to put real thought into solving them, which feels pretty rare in games nowadays. Not all of them are super clear, though; a few could’ve used better hints to point you in the right direction. But if you’re into games that make you slow down and engage your brain, there’s a lot to enjoy here. Combat is there, too, but it’s not the main focus. You do get some cool abilities and upgrades, but unfortunately, a lot of them come really late in the game, so you don’t get as much time to play around with them as you might want. Still, there’s a decent range of items and abilities, so you can find a playstyle that suits you. The tarot card mechanic, though, feels like it was tacked on without much thought - interesting in theory, but not really impactful. All in all, The Last Case of Benedict Fox is a solid pick if you’re after a metroidvania with a focus on story and atmosphere over action. It’s a great mix of mystery and horror, built around a fascinating narrative that keeps you curious.

6/10 This game is a piece of contradiction. It has a beatiful graphics, but game keep stuttering and lagging even on RTX4090. There are a lot of nice puzzles, but you are not explained where to search for answers or how you should solve it. To mitigate this issue they added skip puzzle button... It's somewhere between good and bad.

This game is a mixed bag for me. It does a lot well, the graphics, movement, and gameplay all feel good on a mechanical level. The puzzles are challenging but not too hard and the accessibility options are plentiful such as hold to interact and auto solving a puzzle assuming you have everything required for it. My main issues come down to pacing and narrative. This game commits what i consider a level design sin of "Mandatory optional upgrades", which in simple terms just means something that should be optional or is given optionally; like a specific level up move, shop item, or hidden unlock, is inn reality required to progress, usually for like just 1 minor part. The stomp upgrade is obtained in the ink level up system during a time in the early game where actually getting that ink is a bit difficult due to scarcity. Despite the fact that most of the first hour or so is semi-open running around, finding puzzles, go finding clues to solve those puzzles etc. you never get stomp as a reward like you would have been for most everything else in this stage. And it really is just the lots of little things that hurt the game. True 100% requiring killing all enemies at least once but having flying enemies that have too much health tthat either get stuck outside your reach, sometimes don't spawn, and are very annoying to combat as you really don't get a good counter till a level based upgrade much later in progression. The narrative and story are unique. The best way I can describe it is that it feels like i jumped midway into a preexisting story or series without knowing about the previous entries. A lot of things just kinda happen almost with the assumption that you would already know the context. Things like the demon friend, who the Main Character is, some background Lore and factors of this world, these are just some examples of things that i think made sense for the writers and world builders, but they kinda forgot to put it in the game (or at the very least a prequel book.) The voice acting suffers. I always hesitate to blame the voice actors in principal as even mediocre ones can do great work if they have good direction. Unfortunately i can't tell if its actually bad actors, bad direction, poor translation, or not being fluent in English. The pacing and writing feels stilted and robotic at times with unnatural deadpan tones, lacking expression, and just weird wording. Their are times when it shines, like anything Harry says or the time loop segment near the end. Unfortunatly the bad or bland parts make up the majority. Overall i did beat the game and got all achievements (though for reasons stated above i won't be true 100%ing it). For $25 USD i can't recommend it however if you get it on sale at like $15 or less id say its worth it for an ok metroidvania. Its no Hollow Night or anything but i can't call it a *Bad* game just a Disappointing one. Finally despite the criticisms i do have with the game, it shows a lot of potential, promise, and passion from the devs. If they continue making games like this or at least "in this direction" compared to their older titles, i think the studio has a positive future.

Once again Polish INDIE studios do not disappoint! Benedict Fox is a platform-adventure metroidvania with brainy puzzles! Of all the games in the genre, reminded me heavily of "Orin and the Blind Forest". But while that game is focused on combat and maneuverability, Benedict Fox has detective investigation elements with Lovecraftian mystery and puzzles that are not designed for casual noobs. The game is gorgeous, the art is BEAUTIFUL! Sure this game has flaws, but after recent patches it is a huge improvement compared to the launch. They really need to release an updated trailer! This game is good, don't let it be buried.
