In the second chapter of The Journey Down, Bwana and crew continue their expedition to the Underland. They find themselves in Port Artue, trying to find information about the Underland while avoiding the authorities that are continuing to search for them. In this chapter, the world is a little bigger and the story is a little more developed. Port Artue is very noir, and the Mist surrounding it gives it a creepy vibe. Bwana gets more personally invested in the mystery as he learns more about his missing father's history with the Underland, and the stakes get higher as the Armando Power Company closes in. I was more pulled in by the mystery and enjoyed the setting more than in the first chapter. The puzzles were logical but once again pretty easy, a little more than in the first part. There was one puzzle towards the end that didn't really make sense to me, and I got a little stuck early on because I missed a really obvious detail, but other than that, it wasn't much of a challenge. I enjoyed the music, art style, and voice acting just as much as I did in the first part. The animation looked a little better to me in this part as well. The Journey Down: Chapter Two is a really solid middle. It builds on the story in an intriguing way and has a number of improvements over the first chapter. I'm excited to play the conclusion. 8/10

Pros.: - Better sound and voice design. - The story reminds more of Rubakawa in Grim Fandango. - Better complexity of puzzles. - Longer. Cons.: - Still feels something is off. For example, the depth of the world. Longer, more complex world with more characters would have benefited the game.

TLDR: The Journey Down Ch. 2 really should have been combined with Chapter 1. This feels like a well-done full adventure whereas Ch.1 was basically a demo. PROS: ✅Great music ✅Better puzzle logic than TJD1 ✅Better plot CONS: ➖No achievements Disclaimer: This review assumes you have played The Journey Down Chapter One (TJD1) Content (Game world/Narrative/Length) – Game World: In The Journey Down Chapter Two (TJD2) you arrive at the next destination of the adventure. The game levels are very similar in design to the first game - you wander around 2D maps and solve point-and-click puzzles. The world does feel a bit larger and there is more to do with areas to explore, but throughout the game you make use of the same areas multiple times. There is a lot of backtracking, but thankfully, it's pretty quick. Since TJD2 takes place in a kinda pirate port, some of the Jamaican charms of TJD1 seem to be gone, which might be intentional - the characters are no longer in their home and are somewhere new and potentially alarming. Narrative: A big step up from TJD1. In Chapter Two, the game picks up right where Chapter One ended and continues the adventures of Bwana and Kito. TJD2 finally starts to reveal to the player the large mystery that was hinted at in TJD1. This time Bwana has a goal and motives other than simply fixing a plane to help a customer. You’ll end up journeying all over this pirate port to learn about your past while paving the way to your future. Overall, I liked the plot much better. The goals presented provide meaning and a reasonable motive for Bwana and Kito. Length: This game is about double the length of TJD1, I finished this in 4 hours. Gameplay (Controls/Mechanics/Difficulty) – Controls: Same as TJD1 - point-and-click with simple menus. Mechanics: Same as TJD1 - you have an item menu where you get items from the environment, and you combine the item with themselves or with another item in the environment. Difficulty: I feel like this is a positive change from TJD1. In Chapter One much of the puzzles seemed completely illogical and far-fetched. Old point-and-click games suffer from what's called “Moon logic”. When I looked up a guide I often thought, “I would have never thought of that…” Well, the puzzles seem much more logical in TJD2. I still used a guide, but got stuck much less so than TJD1. Graphics (Quality/UI/Performance) – Quality: A stop up from TJD1. This time you have some good reflections and weather affecting the environment. Furthermore, the game finally embraces a day time setting. Some of the animations are still rough, but overall, this looked slightly better than TJD1 to me. UI: Same as TJD1. Performance: No issues with performance other than the lack of native borderless fullscreen. I played the entirety on my desktop PC: i9-13900KF | RTX 4090 | 64GB RAM | 1440p @ 240hz | installed on SSD Audio (Sound Effects/Music) – Sound Effects: Good voice acting, but not many environmental or basic sound effects present. Music: Another great score here. TJD1 had good music and TJD2 expands on this greatly. So many of the songs had a great vibe and beat while being unique to the areas and situations that Bwana was in. Loved the music. Replay Factor (Longevity) – No replay factor again, no achievements and no deviation/choices here. Final Verdict – A notable improvement over Chapter One, The Journey Down Chapter Two feels like an actual game. Everything has been improved from the plot, the graphics of the zones, the music, everything. Recommend? [Y/N] Yes You can find my curator page here: https://steamcommunity.com/groups/Synik_GR
