Ambient, easy-on-the-eyes solo puzzle adventure. Heavier on the atmosphere, lighter on the challenge, this still turned out to be a pleasant, relaxing ride. Inheritance matters are usually a lot more stressful to navigateā€¦ Without wasting too much time on such frivolities as set-up or backstory, the game dropped me off straight at the foyer of an enormous posh mansion, with a note that my now former employer (unexpectedly dead with the rest of the family presumed to be deceased as well) trusts me to sort out a matter of his will. Iā€™m all for slightly sinister in-medias-res scenarios, so I flexed my fingers and reached for obligatory broken doorknob, conveniently placed in the drawer nearbyā€¦ Let me in, coach! I know what Iā€™m in for. Firstly, a suddenly disturbing developments I had no idea my boss was a part of (the game dutifully warned me that I might not like what I discover); and secondly ā€“ a perplexing mandatory insistence on wanting something to be resolved and yet making sure that a person working on it would have the hardest time getting to a solution. After all, if youā€™d just place a will in the safe with a code to use post-mortem, there would be no game. But if you bring in an unsuspecting assistant and then blast him with all kinds of codes and puzzles you worked on for years - to prevent him from getting easily what you want him to get ā€¦ Now youā€™ve got yourself a game, logic be damned. I donā€™t necessarily mind this approach because, letā€™s face it, a large portion of fiction in any medium wouldnā€™t exist if people were to be too nitpicky about common sense, but also because I was here for the puzzle and surrounding atmosphere more so than for the story. The scenario I found myself in here is extremely popular in solo exploration puzzles/ escape room games, so as long as it had a modicum of originality (it did), and as long as it brought on whatever ambience the developer was gunning for, I was good to go. As far as that ambienceā€¦ I liked it, I liked it quite a lot. In a world full of empty mansions to explore, itā€™s practically impossible to stand out, so the task is not to turn everything upside down chasing new horizons, but rather go for a truly immersive experience. The Crimson Manor is vast, absolutely gorgeous, beautifully lit, and lets you slowly peruse locations picking up and marveling at the things from the times long gone (most of the photos have time stamps of late 1800s). You can explore at your own pace, seeing as little or as much as you want. With sound effects (along with some unobtrusive tracks, and a few bits of classical music you find as part of the tasks) and snippets of potentially menacing story, itā€™s a good time all around, and made going from puzzle to puzzle truly satisfying. Speaking of the devil. Puzzles here are largely logical, have a solid thread going between them (so you are almost never at a loss of what to do), fit well within the world of the manor, quite fun and not all that challenging. The game does have a strange love for a type of puzzle where you must click several things in particular order to open something (Iā€™ve come across at least four variations of that one), but overall ā€“ itā€™s the best balance of ā€œnot-too-hardā€ and ā€œooh-I-want-to-see-whatā€™s-nextā€ parts. You wonā€™t get bored with a variety of click-y lock mechanisms and codes that youā€™d need a special device to get a glimpse of, but you also wonā€™t break your brain thinking over something for days. Depends on what youā€™re after. Iā€™ve been away from playing games for quite a while, so I enjoyed this well-paced journey very much. ā€œThe Inheritance of Crimson Manorā€ surprisingly ended up being quite a little gem of an exploration puzzler. ā€œSurprisinglyā€ because the game isnā€™t breaking any molds as far as the story, the setting, or even the puzzles are concerned. And yet, whatever predictable path it takes, it does it well. It has detailed, lovely location to explore, moody atmosphere with a Gothic flair you can take in at your own pace, addicting (due to the not-too-hard/not-too-easy combo) puzzle component and a solid dose of immersion that even falling through the map (yup, happened to me) didnā€™t really ruin. If you know what exactly it is you want from puzzle games ā€“ this one should be relatively easy to pass up or pick up. Itā€™s no Myst, thatā€™s for sure, but it is an entertaining experience (although, turns out inheritance is a quite a hustle to deal with after all. Hundreds of locks and allā€¦), so if it sounds up your alley ā€“ let yourself in. Just donā€™t forget the doorknob.

A decent little walkabout puzzle game. There was a fair amount of going back and forth between rooms which started to feel a little tedious, but the game isn't long enough for it to really become an issue. The map icons helped keep track of what puzzles were still active. My only complaint is the hint function doesn't really give hints, it just tells you what to do to solve the next puzzle in line to complete your objective.

A pretty solid mystery game filled with puzzles. I really enjoyed how you pieced together the story with all the little papers (newspapers, medical reports, notes from Mr. Strange himself, letters etc. etc.). You can sometimes feel a bit lost and the hints are often just a straight up answer instead of some advice, like I want to be advised/helped and not told the whole answer. But yeah, overall solid game!

Definitely not recommended for people with a goldfish memory. There are lots of interactive objects and keys, and even more backtracking. You can open like half the cupboards and drawers only to find mostly nothing. The puzzles themselves are easy enough, it's just that sometimes you can get lost as to where to continue. Fortunately, the hint system is designed for just that, and can save you hours of clueless wandering.

Very nice puzzle game - very polished and clean - puzzles are never difficult enought to get stuck - just right and nice story to go along. Highly recommended.
