The game is enjoyable but quite short, leaving you feeling like having a delicious meal that doesn’t quite fill your stomach up. If you’ve ever played The House of The Dead on arcade machines, this remade version will bring back a sense of nostalgia. Playing solo in normal mode is fun, but for the best experience, it's highly recommended to play with two players in horde mode.

This remake does capture the feel of the OG pretty well. The game play is fun, rewarding quick reflexes and accuracy. Their are branching paths, different weapons to find, shootable items, secrets and in-game achievements. Would like to emphasise the game is good fun to play.( I have been a bit critical in some of my review) Graphics are good in 4k and run smoothly which is important. Using GSYNC and borderless window mode works a treat. This game does seem to push the PC pretty hard. Reading the comments that some are having crashes. I haven't had any stability issues which makes me think for those with stability issues overclocking may be the issue. This is the type of game that will push a system so if hardware isn't dialed in it may be a potential cause. Sound and music is ok. The audio quality is average. Nothing to write home about but serviceable.I do kinda feel that the audio lets the experience down a bit. The game has branching paths to find and three endings. As the campaign is short, maybe 15-20 minutes give or take the replay ability comes from getting the unlockables, earning achievements, seeing the different endings etc. I think the campaign could be a bit bigger even with the branching paths. Either that or more game modes, maybe a survival game mode for example. As it is the content is limited. Something I think could be done better is how the combat feels and the general feedback when you shoot something. The combat is ok but I don't quite get the sense of holding a powerful firearm and doing serious damage with it. I'm not sure exactly what it is that feels a bit underwhelming. Also shootable items need to give more feedback when destroyed visually or with better sound effects or be more obvious or something I'm not sure. Shooting bonus items is a big part of the OG as is the branching paths. Making this feel rewarding is important. Overall the game comes recommended if you understand that it's designed for multiple play throughs to see all the endings, unlock all the weapons, earn all achievements etc. The shortness of the campaign, the lack of varied game modes as well as the 'not quite as satisfying combat as it could be' hold it back a little but it's still a good game and worth a recommend.

As I sit down to recount my experiences with the remake of "The House of the Dead," a flood of memories washes over me like a relentless tide. You see, I've been a devout fan of this classic arcade shooter since its inception, spending countless hours in dimly lit arcades, gripping that trusty plastic gun as if my life depended on it. So, when news of a remake surfaced, I was simultaneously excited and apprehensive. Would it do justice to the original's eerie charm and adrenaline-pumping gameplay? Allow me to illuminate. First and foremost, let me address the visuals. The team behind this remake has done a commendable job of breathing new life into the decaying corridors of the Curien Mansion. Every decrepit hallway, every grotesque monstrosity that lurches forth from the shadows, is rendered with a level of detail that would have been unthinkable in my youth. And yet, despite the graphical overhaul, there remains an unmistakable sense of fidelity to the original art style, a testament to the developers' reverence for the source material. But visuals alone do not a great game make. No, it is in the gameplay department where this remake truly shines. From the moment I picked up my controller (for alas, my days of wielding plastic firearms are long behind me), I was transported back to a time when reflexes were king and every missed shot felt like a dagger to the heart. The core shooting mechanics are as tight and responsive as ever, prompting me to lean into every twist and turn of the mansion's labyrinthine halls with the same gusto as I did in my youth. Of course, no discussion of "The House of the Dead" would be complete without mention of its B-movie-inspired narrative. And let me tell you, dear reader, the cheesiness is alive and well in this remake. From the delightfully hammy voice acting to the laughably melodramatic plot twists, it's clear that the developers understand what made the original game so endearing to legions of fans. In an industry increasingly obsessed with gritty realism and cinematic spectacle, it's refreshing to see a game embrace its campy roots with such gusto. In conclusion, "The House of the Dead" remake is a lovingly crafted homage to a beloved classic. It captures the essence of the original while modernizing it in all the right ways, resulting in a nostalgia-fueled romp through a zombie-infested nightmare that is as thrilling today as it was decades ago. Whether you're a seasoned veteran of the arcade scene or a newcomer looking to experience a piece of gaming history, this remake is sure to satisfy your craving for undead mayhem. So grab your weapon of choice, steel your nerves, and prepare to enter the house where nightmares are made manifest.

STEAMDECK. Works perfectly fine on Steamdeck, right out of the box no tinkering, online functional. Runs at max settings. House of the Dead Remake is an odd game to figure out how to review and recommend to anyone who isn't already a fan of the genre. It's a remake of a game within a genre that's super niche, that doesn't do anything new with the genre and instead goes for 1:1 faithful remake of the OG. So i'll keep it simple and review it as follows. Are you a fan of the original House of the Dead? If yes than this game is definitely worth the purchase. Its the same exact game except with brand new graphics and audio. There is some new stuff like new difficulties(there's a new mode but really its just a difficulty increase) and weapons(that need to be unlocked first). The music has been replaced, the music isn't bad or good, just not as good as the original. If you're not planning to do multiple playthroughs, trying to rescue all the npcs and beat all the difficulties than at a cost of 24.99 I would say the game isn't worth it, buy it on sale most definitely. You can beat the game in under 2 hours on default settings. More so if you don't have a light gun to use, than you're not even playing it as best intended. But if you got the light gun and plan on milking every corner of the game, its def worth the full price as its both cheaper than the OG version by a long mile but also has more content. Not knowledgeable of House of the Dead but a fan of old school light gun on-rail shooters? Than this game is a easy and definite recommend, its one of the God fathers of on-rail light gun shooters. I'm not an enthusiast of the genre, so idk with what this game has to offer if its up to par with what you may expect from modern on-rail light gun shooters. So at its full price im not sure it is worth it for you or not, but I will say I am happy with the purchase but I also did buy it on a dirt cheap sale(80% off). Now not familiar with on-rail light gun shooters at all? I would say this is the type of game you buy to strictly enjoy with a friend, especially if you have the light guns or motion controls. Its a fast paced fun time, just shooting things ala Contra/Sunset Riders style albeit just from a first person perspective and where the game autoscrolls. As mentioned you can beat it quick, in under two hours. It's just a game to own to bust out along with Mario Party, Just Dance etc during get togethers, parties or game nights. But anyone who isn't a fan of the genre looking for a genuine solo experience isn't gonna find it here or worth it. Looking for a great coop experience? Also not worth it at full price due to length and content. There you go
