Creepy and sad story, with exceptional music and fantastic art direction. The atmosphere is off the charts, I loved it! I got a bit stuck trying to find all the endings, but the puzzles were for the most part satisfying and logical (in the context of a dreamlike point and click adventure game). Exploring and paying attention to items in your surroundings pays off. I even drew out my own map to note points of interest and locations, which along with the simple graphic style and colour palette reinforced that retro feel. Which pairs so well with the horror genre! Less is definitely more in this case. I played on original difficulty (the easier of the two options) as my patience for hiding from monsters etc. in games is quite low, I prefer to look around without being interrupted but if I have to hide/be chased like in this, I will make it as painless as possible for myself. But note that original difficulty (easy) may be too easy for you if you are looking for that added challenge in regards to enemies. A stylish and spooky horror experience, great stuff. I just immediately bought the devs other game on steam, Nightmare Zapping, which I am excited to also play!

I have not played many text adventures but I think this was a good one. Some of the puzzles are quite challenging and I did get stuck, but I still enjoyed this story overall. The artwork is well done and the landscapes, though few, were elaborate and mysterious.

Ah! *I bend down and pick the game like a pulsing four-leaf clover made of spectral flesh.* Lo-fi horror adventure in the first person or otherwise (as opposed to polygonal streamer bait), with face-ripping ghosts and blood rituals, haunted mansions, and demons -- I'm always snooping around for stuff like this, but can you believe that so few games fit the bill? Salazar House embodies this sought-after sub-sub-genre, but not always perfectly. The crunchy monochrome graphics are pretty much there; I can't complain on that score, though a little more detail would be handy so I'd know what some of the things are -- for example, the black smear in the foyer: it looks like it could be a singed pile of dude or anything really, though it's not . . . dude. (But it's blood, which I suppose is dude juice ). The way the palette shifts to indicate the nearness of danger, though, is a very nice touch! And here's a cool surprise: active mechanics and hit points! (There's no combat.) Didn't know I wanted them, but I like 'em, as well as the cool Easter Egg wrapped up in the usage of healing items. The simple fireside story is cool for the most part, though I think the proofreader did a pretty urine poor job indeed -- especially considering the tiny amount of text this game has. The narrative would have had better impact on me if the English had been tighter. ("It's" is never gonna be an adequate possessive pronoun for any human creature, no matter what kind of wacky game you're playing with yourself, and this game obviously isn't going for that anyway.) The hiding/defense/escape mechanics, the way you can actually run from the killer sorceress on the map, or duck into a steamer trunk for a bizarre game of slasher peek-a-boo -- they're rudimentary but certainly nerve-wracking enough for a short horror game. If Maldo does another, he should consider translating these over to his new project; they worked well here, even if they could be improved a smidge! This is fun! It's not a huge time investment to go through and get all the endings, and the whole thing is an interesting experience.

A great little horror game that deserves more sales than it has so far. It's like renting an old horror VHS tape in the early 80s - you pay a couple of dollars with no real idea of the content, then spend a few hours being thoroughly entertained. It's also very easy to 100% if that's your kind of thing.

Some of my fav games ever is Faith the unholy trinity and Who's Lila (def rec that for fans of this!!) I consider these games retro arthouse horror. There are deep concepts behind these pixel games, and exciting simple controls. Just impressive and I'm so happy there's a new wave of them. Horror of Salazar House is an amazing, beautifully executed pixel horror point n click game where you are constantly on edge by an entity chasing you. The colors and graphics are gorgeous. Brilliantly color changing per light, dark, and in danger. Addictive chiptunes. The story starts from a very generic journalist forced to go to spooky house, but grows into a fucking captivating story. Not only captivating, but it had me dedicated to progress. From spooky to bittersweet, had me screaming and almost crying warming my heart. *chefs kiss*
