A very heartwarming story between a father and daughter. There is English translation available which is helpful for English speakers, however if you can read Chinese I'll recommend playing the game in Chinese. There are a humour and nuances that falls flat in the translation. This is just a visual novel so not much game play but at the same time it is a chance to look at simpler times.

Edit: The developers have added an English translation recently, which I haven't played through, so I cannot verify how good it is. Please note that that part of the review is outdated. A very sentimental and short story about a single father raising a daughter in China in the 1990s. There's no English, so if you plan to try it, you had better be able to read some basic Chinese and get used to the dialect, which is a bit colloquial. For example, they use 莫 instead of 别 and 仔 instead of 子. I'm pretty sure I've never seen "娃仔" being used this much before, but it's probably more common in China. There really isn't much gameplay, being a walking simulator with an extremely linear story, and the only real purpose of letting you wander around town is to allow the player to bask in nostalgia. The storytelling is also extremely Chinese, meaning it's told in short and disjointed fragmented vignettes which may annoy people not used to the style. It is a disturbingly accurate depiction of small-town Chinese life in semi-rural conditions. My parents having grown up in a small town like this in Malaysia, it felt quite authentic to me as a reader and made me a bit nostalgic for the days when community was the hallmark of human society and everyone knew one another in a town. I enjoyed it rather a lot for this reason alone - the NPCs feel like authentic human beings and aren't perfect, right down from the horrible teacher in school to the nice one. It is ultimately a moving story about self-sacrifice and patience, where a diligent (but imperfect) father tries his very best to become a good one. Buy it if you're curious about what small-town humble life was like in rural China before the Internet came along and ruined everything and the USA decided to go on a crusade to convince everyone that the Chinese people are stupid/unethical/evil and sly genocide-supporting cultists. You might even develop empathy for them, and what a loss that would be to the CIA's efforts.
