Friends pointed out that this game had become free. I did notice that this had been sitting in my library for a while so I decided to give it a try. The title is a reference to the job we have to do with our protagonist - the intro clearly states that the estranged son is now returning to the family home only to murder his sister as he got wind that the father may leave him out of the inheritance completely. We need to ensure we get our hands on the real estate and everything else! Games by Pilgrim Adventures generally have simplistic graphics and are played from a top-down perspective. The game - upon launching - appears in a small window only. ALT+Enter is your friend if you don't mind pixelated graphics in full screen. I would sum up gameplay as something that consists of 4 parts: following the intro the story continues with us entering the house and having our first conversation with the maid. We then have the opportunity to explore the house and meet the rest of the family members. This initial section ends once we picked up two objects given the limitation of our inventory. Then comes dinner time. As meal is served it is mandatory to be part of the conversation between family members at the table. Moving forward we have the time to carry out our deed - there is no turning back once we entered the drawing room so we still have some time to decide where to hide (or more like plant) one of the objects we have at our disposal as evidence. Following the murder we quickly need to escape to an adjacent room and in the final part we reply to the questions of an inspector. The game ends with the conviction of a family member (or not as the murder can be ruled out as a suicide). Every dialogue choice matters right from the beginning. Even saying no to the maid and deciding to keep our coat on at the beginning opens up additional endings. I was only missing the voice over for each character. But this is an indie game and the ambient soundtrack is great. I also liked the exploration of the house as interacting with certain objects (such as a mirror) can make us relive a memory from our childhood. Only painful ones, of course, given the toxic family members. This is a neat little game and just because there is a guide for all achievements you can still do your own exploration and find new dialogue / interaction options.

very short game, I think you can just finish it under 1 hour or something (I wanted to get every achievements and the trading cards, that's why I have 6 hours of play time) but despite being short and despite being quiet simple, I think this is a very amazing game. the story is overall good for what it is and the idea is just overall really fun, you can choose a lot of weapons to use to kill, and you can also frame everyone in the house as the murderer instead of yourself which adds more replayability. I recommend this game to anyone who is interested in murder mystery games. (I gotta warn you that the game is easy though, it's not very hard to not get arrested in this game, it's very easy, but still fun)

whilst short in a individual run way if you play through multiple times to get the achievements its fun. the conversations between everyone were very enlightening as to their character despite only being short dialogue. the dev and or writer did very well in this regard. i hate the sister, may she rot in pieces. 7/10

The Deed is a clever, short murder mystery game with a unique twist. The story is engaging, and the decision-making aspect is really fun, as you try to get away with murder in a variety of ways. It’s a quick playthrough, but it offers plenty of replayability to explore different outcomes. Definitely worth checking out for fans of strategy and intrigue. Rating: 8/10 A smart and engaging game, perfect for a quick but enjoyable experience.

It's an okay game, but a very short one. You can finish your first run in around 30 minutes. If you wan't to get all endings and all achievements it takes around 2 hours to do so. Get it on a sale if it looks interesting to you. 6/10
