There is a hot forbidden god. He also has a lot of arms. Deconstructeam's ability to write a story that epitomises the human experience is unparalleled. You get to make your own pokemon cards AND cry at the end. Just like the red strings club, no other game can make you breathe the life of the characters like this one does. They do such an unforgettable job at framing and placing you into the deepest workings of Fortuna's life, while also giving you an amazing creative outlet at the same time. It is way too easy to lose entire NIGHTS designing your cards. I hate that I ever played this game because I know that nothing I will ever play after this will be as captivating as this one. Ultimately, I rarely ever play point-and-click, but I wish I could play this game for the first time again.

Deconstructeam delivers beautiful and thought provoking games as always c: Also, love all the witch aesthetics! Edit: The only gripe I have with this game is the way it tried to tackle gender issues. Hand-waving away why men can't be witches and that they suck (you have trans women rep so... what does that "men suck" achieve for trans men? It makes the rep feel superficial and one-sided). I also didn't enjoy nonbinary people being relegated to a secondary feminine gender. That's what it read like to me anyway. But other than that, the game is enjoyable.

This game was pretty good. The narrative is okay. It comes out strong with "girls love girls and smoke weed!" and I was like... yes, and? And then there was a lot of awkward shuffling of feet and clearing of throats. This game could have really benefited from more diversity in characters. Everyone is basically a woman in her early twenties fluent in therapy speak who is trying their best to be a good person. Even the racist character is super sweet and nice. Where are my crabby, annoying ladies? Lesbians can be jerks too. You can write evil women. It's not misogynistic. Those criticisms aside, the ending was exciting. Parts of it felt very arbitrary - it's a deeply naive person's idea of cynical, and it's hard to predict that point of view. Still, I was engaged and feeling feelings. That makes it worth playing in my book. The only part of this game that was a failure were the card mechanics. It's fun to make new cards. It's also objectively a bad idea to do so. Your minimum deck size is 4, and one card you get is better than any of the others. So you should always have a deck of exactly 4, with the super card and 3 others that are as diverse, energy-wise, as you can make them. I ended the game with something like a hundred energy lying around, with nothing to do with it. This game needs some way of encouraging players to interact with its core mechanic. Without it, it's just an interactive novel with light RNG elements. And it's fine on that basis, but if the cards had worked as intended it could have been great.

Honestly, I love this game, it is a calming refresher when it comes to games. Sitting back and making cosmic cards while trying desperately not to fall in love with cosmic space shrimp is amazing.

I did three playthroughs of this game because the first run I had promised so much, but ultimately, I got very little for the runs I did. Now I know this is a positive review, but the things I have to say are pretty negative. First of all, the game is dialogue based and promises plenty of replayability through different choices. My three playthroughs went like this, first was complete blind run, second was aiming for best possible ending and my third was let the world burn. Aside from most changes being just few throwaway lines here and there, there really wasn't as much variation between the endings as I had hoped. For some reason my character will still get mad at Abramar in the end, who is the best character in the game, even though she condemned everyone to death and willingly sacrificed her coven. It doesn't make sense. Secondly, since there is so much dialogue that repeats throughout the playthroughs, I cannot grasp why essentials like "skip all seen dialogue" button is missing. It should be basically a staple for games like this, but no I had to spam click my way through the same cutscenes I had already seen three times. This is especially jarring with scenes where there will be absolutely no changes. Also having no NG+, when the idea of the game is to collect cards and create your favorites. What's the point of making good card art when I will just lose those cards soon enough? Thirdly, the game switches up from fortune reading to a political minigame halfway through. While there still are some fortune readings done, most of them only concern the politics and don't actually have much to do with the characters themselves. This part also takes a huge amount of time with basically no variations and you always end up just having to sleep like 10 times even when your victory is assured just to get to the next scene. I wanted to read fortunes and affect the future, I didn't want to campaign for witch rights. Now those are my main three criticisms of the game. However, it should be apparent that I did get invested enough to do three playthroughs and spend my time interacting with the game. I did like most of the characters and the illusion of choice did linger in my mind for a long time. All of my complaints are just things the devs could have done better to really elevate the experience. That is why I will have this review as a positive instead of a negative one.
