I played this game when i had a really bad time. I was a lot of thinking about commiting suicide, but when i played this game it helped me understend that even if you have the worst day in your life next day can be much better. Now i won't commit it. And if you having a bad day just try to have your cup of tea...

A story starts with suicide, ends with redemption. At the beginning of the prologue, Susan's note reads, "Any second now, I will be dead. I feel calm, I'm ready for it. I've only got one thing to say now. Thanks for nothing. Goodbye." But at the ending, her new note reads, "Now, I've forgiven the world and myself, too. I teach myself to smile again. One day I'll get there. I know I will. Even if takes me not nine, but nine hundred lives." It seems to me that the story tries very hard to convey the idea that death is sometimes not the best solution, and that if one ends their own life, they give up the possibility of returning to a better life. However, for me, that's fairly a shallow summary. Suicidal, the word is more than just a trade-off between the options of living and killing yourself. I've recently been reading Shelly Kagan's book, Death. One paragraph reads: But it is also important to think realistically about the likelihood of recovery, and just how badly off you will be if your life continues in the way that it most likely will. In short, it seems to me that there are cases in which suicide would be a rational choice— or at least, it would be rational given the assumption that you are able to think clearly about your situation. But The Cat Lady's story is clearly a fairy tale, and really, I'm even a little jealous that she can get the help of a so-called God or Salvation after her death to come back into this world, to experience all the things she otherwise wouldn't have experienced and survive all the calamities by way of Divine Power, and all the emotional changes that come her way in between those experiences. And Mitzi's appearance is certainly the opportunity for a change for the better, and for her to find an person who can empathise with her past traumas. It's not that most people in the world don't want to hold on until then and kill themselves, it's that they've held on too long and can no longer survive, at which point the expectation of ending their lives and thus their suffering is greater than some sort of redemption coming their way. Having said all that, The Cat Lady is actually still a beautiful fairy tale, and I'd give it full marks, but I can't look forward with that kind of hope, "I'll get there. I know I will. Even if takes me not nine, but nine hundred lives."

I had heard about this game for quite some time, but I was initially put off by its visual style. However, when I finally gave it a try, it quickly grew on me. The game creates a compelling atmosphere with its mix of real-life photos, hand-drawn images, accent colors, and lighting. What surprised me the most was its use of 'cutscenes.' Despite the game's stylistic and engine limitations, they are quite expressive and interesting. The music is another highlight - it sets the tone perfectly and is quite memorable. Some of the tracks have been living in my head rent-free for a few days now. The voiceover, even if not entirely professional, adds character to the game. Maybe it's the norm for adventure games to have it, but I'm mostly used to blips and bloops in games like Undertale. As for the gameplay, I'm not usually a big fan of this aspect in adventure games. I prefer atmosphere and story more. However, in this game, it's straightforward - no pixel hunting and no convoluted moments, which is a plus for me. The story is fun and interesting to follow. The main characters are likable and have some heartwarming moments. My only gripe is the lack of personality or motivation for the antagonist characters, which is something you'd expect in these kinds of stories. Also, don't expect all your questions to be answered or explained - it's more about the journey than the destination. Nevertheless, it was a memorable and enjoyable experience. Considering it's quite an old game now, it would be fun to check out other games by this developer. If you don't mind darker stories that touch on sensitive matters, give it a try.

Good game. Whole game is a metaphor for depression and getting through it. While the game's age has shown a bit, it still delivers its message well. Easy recommend if you're into the theme.

If you suffer from depression, it hits you differently. And you may not be ready for that. But if you're ready to face the darkness of depression with the purpose of challenging it, not to succumb to it, then this is your indie wonder to play. It's painfully honest about depression and suicide. And most importantly, it introduces to us Susan Ashworth, a beautiful, fragile soul who's perfectly likeable with all her cynism, breakdowns, flaws, mistakes and (feminine) rage. You just want to hug her, make her pancakes, help her go through a hard day. And with that, I found myself becoming more compassionate towards myself. This is an absolute win. And also introduced the perfect sidekick who I cannot talk about without spoiling anything, but believe me: Mitzi is wonderful and we all need a Mitzi in our life. Needless to say, The Cat Lady is still a horror game with perfect atmosphere and some truly gutting moments. Some moments of the game are so terrible or so unspeakable, that I find myself think about them over and over again. The psychological horror elements attack the deepest fears of someone with mental health issues (the final monologue of the psychiatrist or the last "boss" of the game for example). And the rest of the horror part of the game? It's just plain nuts and disturbing and simply perfect for the atmosphere the artists created. This is the only game I would want to see a movie adaptation of, strictly with the original soundtrack. And Mr. Michalski, I will never forgive you for the "misery" scene. Take this as a compliment.
