An outstanding tennis game with the must-have XKT mod. I'm an OG Super/Virtua/TopSpin player from the distant past, and thought I could scratch the old tennis itch with TopSpin 2K25. TopSpin looks great, and I don't hate it, but after 50+ hours of uninspiring gameplay that never felt like proper tennis, I decided to give TE4 a shot. I went from doubtful to completely addicted in a matter of hours. The gameplay feels like real, exciting, dynamic, no nonsense tennis . The AI players have their own distinct 'personalities'/playstyles and are a work of art. There are more comprehensive reviews already available here. I'm just adding to the pile. If you have doubts based on the graphics/animations, do yourself a favor --- Set them aside, dedicate a couple of hours to figuring out how TE4 works, and immerse yourself in a remarkable tennis experience where you end up holding real grudges against AI players, and startle your wife/cats when you finally face and beat the GOAT Novak Djokovic on Master difficulty with your own Pro.

As someone who plays tennis at a decent level, I was blown away by the mechanics, ball physics, and rally dynamics in this game. Compared to the Topspin series where rallies often end up becoming these 20-30 shot marathons, this game accurately reflects how points can play out depending on player attributes, positioning, timing, and shot selection. Playing against some of the ATP players in the mod version felt like a pretty intuitive simulation, and I was impressed at how well the dev captured patterns of play within points and games. Considering this is only developed by one person, this is an astonishing project worthy of any hardcore tennis fan's time.

Let me start this review by saying that this is the best tennis simulation Iā€™ve ever played. I thought it would never surpass its predecessor but it sure did, in every way possible. It has it all. Mod support, 21 stadiums, almost every type of shot imaginable in tennis: Forehand, backhand, volley, smash, aggressive and safe service, kick service, slice service, combination of the two, drop shot, drop volleyā€¦ Different ball bounce effects on different courts. When playing on a clay court lines actually get dirty over time. Day (moving sun) and night sessions. Pro and Junior tours. Iā€™m running out of breath just naming theseā€¦ One of the only things missing is drive volley. Hopefully it gets integrated soon. When it comes to modifications, mod io integration is a welcome feature. There, you can install and update mods with relative ease. My recommendation is XKT and Scoreboards by Stef mods which I use all the time. You can get hundreds of animations, clothing sets and real life scoreboards which get updated on a regular basis. Main difference between this game and other AAA tennis ā€œsimulationsā€ is its mechanics and oh dear is it the best in class and intuitive beyond measure. It will take some time for beginners to learn the basics but once you do, youā€™re going to have a time of your life. Every difficulty level has 10 sublevels so the progression and learning curve are easy over time. My final thought is this: Have fun and most especially, be patient. You wonā€™t be able to grasp everything it has to offer in just 2 or 3 hours. After all, this is an indie game that prides itself on being the most realistic tennis simulation on the market. It thoroughly deserves that title. Created for the fans by the fans. Thank you ManuTOO.

It takes some time to get used to the controls but this feels more like real tennis than any other game I've ever played. And unlike with Some Other Tennis Games, there are no external servers to connect to if you just want to play single-player career mode. Load, select game mode, play. Easy. Just like it should be.

There are many tennis games out there with huge teams behind, lots of graphical quality, lots of money put on making them, on having famous faces on the covers, claiming to be the most realistic and fun... and NONE, ABSOLUTELY NONE come anywhere close to what Tennis Elbow offers. The realism makes it different. Players aren't perfect, mistakes are as much part of the game as winners, and that's what tennis is about. Add to that realistic World Tour and you get an incredible experience. I play one match a day and so every match matters, every match is important. Some are actually memorable and you remember everything from them! The fact that you can end up exhausted after a 5-set marathon is a statement of this. In fact, every point ends up being important because momentum changes during matches, you play better or worse, your opponents too depending on what goes on during the match. It can be frustrating at times, but you also end up fist-pumping and saying Vamos! after a key point. It's just like playing a real match. Because in the end, TE is a game made by tennis lovers for tennis lovers.
