It's an horror adventure essentially happening in the 90ies in a small Japanese village. You play a girl who's able to see yokai, which puts this game slightly on the horror side. As far as I can tell, the story revolves around a childhood trauma and the Tokyo subway attacks that happened in 1995. I like it as it helps anchoring the story in the real world and contrasts with the supernatural "horror". Speaking of the horror theme, the game being in 16-bits style, I expect it will be manageable for most players. Controls cannot be redefined but it should not be a problem here. They are essentially the arrows keys to move, shift to run, 'Z' to interact, 'A' to turn-on a flashlight and 'X' to cancel. Keep in mind you can press 'F4' to play in fullscreen mode. I've only played one chapter so far and I've enjoyed it.

For anyone interested in some of the true events that inspired this game: In 1995 Japan's subway system was attacked by a cult and the goal was to blame the attack on the United States in the hope the Japanese government would start a war. The cult's leader, Shoko Asahara preached that if a war was started, his prophecies would come true. (The Crimes and Consequences podcast has an episode on this!) This game also explores the consequences of the The Heisei era's prolonged economic slowdown and crisis in the financial world. All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed this blend of historical events and Japanese folklore! I'm so grateful that this game was translated into English, I'd recommend it to everyone. :)

🍙 Simply enchanted by this mystical dramatic tale. It's incredibly cozy and charming, and the mini-plots are able to touch to the depths of the heart, despite the rather harsh reality basis. There is a place for horror, drama and a real soul, which cannot be said about many even non-game stories. No questions, it doesn't shock with innovations, but it works. Total recommendation.

So I just finished doing a 100%, both endings and it only took 5 hours with me going pretty slow. It was fun. A decent story (if predictable) with good, likable characters. Far more of a visual novel than a game-game, I'd say about 50% of the time playing the game was reading dialogue. Honestly I think it trying to be horror brought it down. There were large sections of the game where the ONLY thing signalling it as a horror game was the OST and the fact it was night time. The story is, ultimately, a tragedy and works best when it's leaning into that rather than trying to be a horror game. This game is not scary; creepy at best. There were a few startle moments, but overall not frightening, but the bit of intrigue about the story kept me going to the end.

This game was so beautiful! I enjoyed every minute of it. The cast of characters is very lovely and very well written. I adored the characters we helped in each chapter! The story itself was very touching and flowed well throughout the entire game. The true ending to the game was amazing, even if it did make me cry a little (a lot) a bit. But it just really happened to tug on my heartstrings. Definitely would recommend it, if it's a game you've been toying with the idea of playing for awhile I really think you should get it. I played this game in two sittings, each about 2.5 hours long, so it's not so long that you'll grow tired of it. All in all 10/10 I do recommend.
