Rating: 5.5/10 A Decent Game, But Heavily Targeted at Early Teens If you're in your early teens, this game might just hit the spot. However, for anyone older, especially those looking for a more mature narrative, you might find the story lacking depth. The plot feels overly focused on cliche themes like "the power of heart will solve all problems" and "friendship can conquer everything." These concepts, while appealing to a younger audience, don't resonate well with those seeking a story that acknowledges the complexities and consequences of real-life situations. The lack of significant repercussions in the narrative is a major downfall, making it feel more like a fairytale than a mature story. On the gameplay side, things are more positive. The battles are engaging, and the ability to choose your difficulty level is a welcome feature, allowing players to tailor their experience based on how much they want to grind. The music and animation are solid, providing a pleasant auditory and visual experience throughout the game. Notably, this is the first game in the series to use the Unreal Engine, which is a significant step up from its predecessors in terms of technical capabilities. The engine switch has clearly paid off, delivering smoother gameplay and more impressive visuals. In conclusion, while it's a decent game, its focus on early teen concepts and unrealistic ideologies—like the protagonist's relentless "fight against your hate" mantra—can be difficult to stomach. The constant forgiveness of murderers and the overly simplistic view of good vs. evil make it hard to fully enjoy the story. If you're looking for a game with a more nuanced and mature narrative, this one might not be for you.

Great Game! Don't buy the DLCs. TRUST ME ! It feels like I'm 11 years old playing Tales of Symphonia for the first time in my grandmother's basement all over again.

The Good: - Story is 'fantastical apartheid' told in a very believable way, with shades of grey. - Art style is gorgeous. - Boost Strikes look super cool. - Fast Travel around the world is free, you just have to have visited that location first. - Weapons and accessories can be crafted much more easily than other RPGs I've played. The Bad: - Bosses and large enemies are ridiculous HP sponges. - There's no button to just switch controllable characters on the fly. You have to bring up the battle options menu, which pauses the battle, paints an overlay on the screen, and then hope that your muscle memory doesn't kick in to press 'A' after you choose who you want to play with. - You can't map learned artes to anyone other than your party leader. So you have to change leaders, map their artes, back out, rinse repeat. - Some characters have very well-written dialogue, others you can clearly hear that they phoned in their acting. The WTF: - The party talks way too much during battles, even having conversations. It's cool for the first few hours or so, but then it gets grating. - You only see the party leader outside of battles, other party members don't walk/run around with them and are relegated to disembodied voices and then suddenly appear for battle or cutscenes. This is a 2021 game, even then there should be no excuse. - The hunger mechanic was not very well thought-out. You seriously can't tell me that unsweetened porridge contains more energy and keeps you full for longer than fish and vegetable stew?? - I play with a gamepad. There are at least two buttons during battle that do absolutely nothing, so they have to get mapped to duplicate functions. Why couldn't they be used for character switching? - The healing artes are exclusive to the Renans. What does this mean? It means that Shionne is the hardest character to play as until Dohalim joins later on. The way that this game mixes arte casting with general combat is not the best, so until that time, many players will just let the AI control her. It also means that before you get Dohalim, if Shionne is down, and you have no Life Bottles left, it's almost a guaranteed wipe. To sum up, if you can get past the inconsistent acting, bad QoL decisions, and boss battles that are slightly longer than what they need to be, I recommend it.

Review from a first time tales player. (FF and Persona enjoyer) What I like: -Story -Graphics (The views are so good) -Satisfying combat mechanics -10/10 Soundtrack -Interesting Characters -A lot of things to do + interesting side quests Downside: -After around 30+ hrs of gameplay, there is a certain part of the story where it have so many dialogue and talking, it goes for around 3-5 hrs lol with a lot of dialogue and only minimal combat ENDING: Why you gotta make Alphen dumb in the ending by not taking the Renas Alma in front of Vholran?💀 . But still, the ending is good. but could have done better :) Overall, I didn't expect I will get so immersed in the gameplay and the story especially the characters, played and finish this in 1 week. After 30 hrs+ it could get a little boring since the story will feel like a drag. Recommended for players who didn't play the tales series and wanted to try.

Very enjoyable game overall. - Great cast of characters, Incredible Graphics - Good/Decent Story, Music & Gameplay - Forgettable Villains and some lacking QoL (too little Checkpoints/Rest-spots in some areas, very expensive healing items, etc) Note: This game is surprisingly hard. I started on hard an gradually stepped lower until I said "fuck it" and put in on "story difficulty". Imo that's how the normal difficulty should have felt. Enemies are very spongy and Bosses can hit quite hard even on the lowest difficulty. Make sure you always buy/find/equip new armor & weapons when you can and do not be afraid of using a couple healing items to tank through hard fights. Especially the early bosses (first 2 regions) can really vibe-check you. After that it gets a lot more manageable. Overall ~ 7.5/10 for me. Hope this is useful for someone :)
