Whether you are gonna like this game or not depends very much on how much you are into its vibe. I think this dialogue from the game sums up the feeling it is going for, and I quote, (very mild spoiler alert) "There is a difference between loneliness and solitude; Loneliness is a yearning, an emptiness. Solitude is a space to be yourself. To know yourself. To love yourself." ★★★½ out of 5

I agree previous reviews. The game starts and getting good until chapter 3. After that story breaks apart heavily unfortunately. Buuuut, after finishing the game I learned from credits that this was a Kickstarter game. It is so obvious that their funding couldn't give them enough to continue and finish the game properly. And because of the the effort put into the game I cannot bring myself to give it a thumb down. I think the good sides have %51 lead in this game. But that means %49 bad sides as well. That's why you shouldn't expect good adventure all the way down to the end. Just a good first try attempt.

A tragic tale of raccoon investigator Howard who is caught up in circumstances much bigger than himself. Somber, macabre and emotional, very engaging story and dialogues paired with beautiful art and a world that feels much bigger than just the immediate events the character is involved in. Many of the mixed reviews of this game come from the fragmented and emotionally unsatisfying ending, but I think that ending was a great creative choice that the development of the narrative leads perfectly into. I don't want to give away too much of what happens, but the story has a theme of circumstances growing ever bigger and ever more complicated, to a point beyond what the protagonist is able to wrap his head around. We don't get a satisfying ending or the full picture, because Howard doesn't either. The game deals with a lot of pain and desperation, and I think in order to portray these themes well, you can't always wrap things up nicely. It's natural that, in order to feel good emotionally, we want a satisfactory conclusion, but very often in life, we don't get one and we're left hanging. And for me, being left hanging made it all the more impactful and gave me plenty to think about long after I had finished playing the game.

I bought the game at a discount, let's start with the fact that the game has very nice pixel art graphics, the plot is more or less normal. The ending of the game is JUST UNFINISHED. I don't know if the game has several endings or only one.. I give the game a score of 5.6 points and then for good design and graphics, the rest is very bad

After avoiding Tails Noir (formerly known as Backbone) for years due to its mixed reception, I find the game has been unfairly judged. While I can't speak to any technical issues upon its release, my personal experience was a smooth and bug-free playthrough of the entire game. The primary critique often leveled against Tails Noir pertains to its narrative departure from the Detective/Noir theme, evolving into something perceived as 'weird' or 'bizarre.' Interestingly, this shift is what captivated me the most. From the fourth act onward, the game exudes a palpable sense of hopelessness, reminiscent of the common tone found in Eastern European writing. It defies categorization as a romance, a Noir tale, or even a character-driven narrative. Instead, it unfolds as a tragedy, its core purpose being to illustrate how an oppressive and powerful regime can distort people's perception of reality. The concept of what lies beyond the city's walls drives individuals to commit horrific acts in pursuit of freedom. Irony abounds as the unknown beyond the wall (represented by the Artifact) proves to be even more menacing than the city's oppressive regime. The protagonist serves as a mere observer, a pair of eyes witnessing the horrors within the city, outside it, and the monstrous act people commit in their pursuit of elusive goals. The ending, far from a happy resolution, leaves no relevant loose ends, effectively concluding the observer's role and planting the seeds of revolution. The overarching idea behind Tails Noir is commendable and even remind me a tiny bit of Stalker. However, its execution falls short. It could have become one of my favorite short stories if it had fully committed to its grimdark themes and spent less time on surface-level comedy and Twitter-like political commentary (which feels heavy-handed and out of place). It appears as if there were brilliant people in the team with great ideas, but alongside writers who just wanted to get their rocks off. Additionally, the story is entirely linear, which is fine, but I understand people who might feel misled by the presence of dialogue choices that, in reality, only serve as mere conduits for Steam achievements. In conclusion, Tails Noir deserves a purchase and playthrough, provided one approaches it with an open mind and hold no expectations of a conventional detective story. Fans of 'Eastern European-like' narratives and horror stories akin to those of H.P. Lovecraft may find this game more appealing than the average player. However, it's essential to acknowledge its imperfections, especially where writing is concerned.
