Expected some mediocre slavjank strategy game, but it's actually a genuinely great slavjank strategy game. Gameplay is great fun, music is full of jams, and engine provides a lot of depth and really nice visuals to boot. Sure, it's not World in Conflict in terms of presentation, but it's damn close, cutscenes aside. Looking forward to Front Edge.

Pretty solid RTS game with realistic troops management and great tactical engagements. Syrian warfare provides you Syrian and Russian army units to fight rebel ISIS terrorists. Each of these units had their function in the battlefield and also their capacities and limitations. Within these units you will find from normal army or police squads, snipers, antitank teams, assault specialized teams, engineers, drivers, marines, mortars... and a massive variety of real world vehicles like normal trucks, jeeps, APCs, main battle tanks, anti-aerial SAMs, helicopters... as stated each one has to be used properly, e.g. assault teams to get on buildings, snipers for long distances, engineers to disarm mine fields... It's pretty easy to loose them and to run out of, let's say certain guns or equipment that could mean a quick defeat depending on the objectives. Syrian Warfare it's a HARD game, specially on initial hours, even on the normal difficulty level (not even mention the superior ones). Each squad has its members that receive experience and improve and get promoted over the campaign. This is really something that you have to manage (to not lost your best units and have to face missions full of novice teams) as all the vehicles, weapons, units... are carried out over the different missions through the campaign. That could mean that if you have significant looses in a mission, the next one would be even more complicated, to a certain point that it could be impossible to advance. So save your progress in different slots just in case. You are limited in these troops as you can call some from the reserve but that costs command points (you can sell equipment/units/troops for command points aswell), so you have to be very careful to get everything you can on every mission (trucks, supplies, ...) In this game you have to manage resources like ammo or fuel very wisely to make sure your units don't get stuck or without offensive power. They can resupply from enemies and you can capture enemy or neutral vehicles aswell and that is one of your priorities. Again, it's so easy to get wiped out. You can think that with your tanks can easily take out or conquer a position making a quick armored assault. But if there are RPGs in that position for example, you can loose them all in just seconds. So, as stated you have to use real tactics for each unit, get all of them covered, use smoke to cover, try to flank, ambush or get superiority on the enemy. Otherwise the situation easily gets ugly and bad. Buildings for example got destroyed with enough powerful hits so you can loose your cover or directly the units inside if it falls down. As for the campaign development it's well done, with realistic missions and plot, with some cutscenes inside the missions and also many side-objectives that brings (sometimes pretty hard) additional challenges and goals. You can call or get reinforcements from time to time. On the negative side, the pathfinding of the units it's ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE! Not on your men squads but on the vehicles. That means you have to micro-manage and babysit the movement of your vehicles everywhere, all the time. Luckily there is a real-time pause that allows you to pause the action and give to your units the right orders. This is also pretty useful when you are fighting on two different parts of the map for example. Also I've experienced some crashes that makes you need to save the game continuosly. Visuals are decent on max settings and allows the game to run on laptops and low-end PCs. Music is nice but can be a bit repetitive over the hours. Maps and levels design is really great and it really gets the Syrian terrain atmosphere. In the end if you like realistic strategy games with real units, real tactics and you look for kind of a challenge this is a game that you have to consider. Take patience with the pathfinding on your vehicles and take care of your units to not get killed.
