This is one of my favorite games of all time. So many moving parts to it, items, weapons, attachments, classes, etc. but it all links together beautifully like a well-oiled machine. Just absolutely incredible, gets my blood pumping.

Synthetik is a top-down rogue-lite shooter that virtuosically coalesces frenetic action with meticulously calculated strategy, engendering an adrenaline-infused odyssey that necessitates both instantaneous reflexes and an astute tactical intellect. It instantaneously enthralls with its sublimely gratifying gunplay; armaments possess substantial heft and reverberation, each projectile echoing with a resounding impact that underscores the visceral quintessence of combat. The fastidiously crafted sound design further augments the experience, immersing you in a cacophony of gunfire, detonations, and the agonized cries of your adversaries, creating a symphony of destruction that heightens the tension and excitement of every encounter. The active reload system introduces a supplementary stratum of dexterity and immersion, transmuting each skirmish into an exhilarating crucible of reflexes and accuracy. Bungling a reload can portend the demarcation between survival and demise, compelling you to judiciously administer your resources and render split-second determinations under relentless duress. This mechanic adds a layer of strategic depth, forcing you to consider the timing of your reloads and the positioning of your enemies, lest you find yourself vulnerable in a moment of weakness. The game's profundity extends far beyond its visceral combat, boasting a weapon customization system of unparalleled intricacy. It proffers a voluminous assortment of firearms and attachments that facilitate unfettered experimentation, emboldening you to meticulously tailor your loadout to harmonize with your idiosyncratic playstyle. Each weapon exudes a unique aura, with its own distinctive recoil patterns, handling idiosyncrasies, and upgrade trajectories. The sheer variety of options allows for a remarkable degree of personalization, ensuring that no two runs feel the same. As you progress through the game, you'll unlock novel attachments and modifications, empowering you to forge devastatingly potent amalgamations that evolve with each successive incursion. This sense of progression and discovery is incredibly rewarding, encouraging you to experiment with different combinations and uncover hidden synergies that can turn the tide of battle in your favor. Synthetik is incontrovertibly arduous, a gauntlet that necessitates unwavering precision and tactical perspicacity. Each foray into its procedurally generated levels presents a singular challenge, an unrelenting onslaught of adversaries and environmental perils that will test your skills to their utmost limits. You'll need to attain mastery in the art of evasion, serpentine movement, and the adroit utilization of cover to endure, while also judiciously overseeing your finite resources and adapting your strategies with alacrity. The game's enemy AI is cunning and relentless, forcing you to constantly stay on your toes and anticipate their next move. The sense of accomplishment subsequent to a triumphant sortie is immeasurable, an attestation to your dominion over the game's intricate systems and your aptitude to surmount its punitive trials. It's an emotion that ignites the fervent desire to plunge back in for another endeavor, zealous to test your mettle against the perpetually shifting vicissitudes. Each victory feels hard-earned and well-deserved, fueling a sense of pride and accomplishment that keeps you coming back for more. With its diverse classes, each possessing unique abilities and playstyles, unlockable augmentations that further enhance your capabilities, and a seemingly boundless profusion of weapons and items to unearth, Synthetik bestows innumerable hours of replay value. The game's procedural generation ensures that no two runs are ever the same, offering endless possibilities for exploration and experimentation. There perpetually exists something novel to unearth and master, guaranteeing that the game retains its invigorating freshness and allure even after myriad playthroughs. While the initial learning curve can be precipitous and certain difficulty spikes may feel iniquitous, the challenge is ultimately intrinsic to Synthetik's allure. It's a game that mandates dedication and indefatigable perseverance, but the rewards are commensurate. The feeling of overcoming a seemingly insurmountable obstacle or defeating a particularly challenging boss is incredibly satisfying, and it's this sense of triumph over adversity that makes Synthetik so compelling. If you yearn for a profound and engrossing shooter that remunerates skill and tenacity, impelling you to the very zenith of your abilities, Synthetik is an exemplary selection that will leave you breathless and yearning for more.

Tactical shooter rogue-like with visceral gunplay and high explosives. I like the fun sounds. Classes and randomization allow for extremely variable gameplay. No multiplayer experience but I've heard very good things. I have not beat the game and it is 100% a skill issue, would recommend. Idk if the sequal is good.

For anyone interested in buying this game but are on the fence about it, play the Synthetik: Arena first. Any character progression transfers from Arena to Legion Rising, which is very much appreciated. Once you've played Arena, come back and buy this game, it's phenomenal. I've sunk 41.7 hours into this Arena, before actually buying the full game. I've played ~30+ of those hours on an og steam deck, on which it ran alright w/ base settings with some stuttering here and there. Turned down the graphics settings and it ran consistently smooth. Aiming is a bit limited on the deck on account of the screen size, but overall was solid. The key bindings took a bit to get used to as well, but were fine once I got the hang of it. While Synthetik Arena does offer a number of game modes, I still found myself playing the Legion Rising demo 8/10 times I'd launch the game. This is the rouge-like style game mode, and provides the most variety despite being limited to the first boss. Randomized weapon, module, and item drops made for a much more interesting gameplay loop compared to the other game modes, which were much more limited in weapon selection. (will update this later once I've played more Legion, but so far it has exceeded my expectations even after the ~40 hours of Arena.) Update: I've played more. It's so good. I have yet to reach the final boss because I am experiencing what the hip youth call a "skill issue."

You'll be a demi-god and get the best and highest possible roll, only to die to either a single enemy that looks like a roomba, or your own projectile that bounce fifty times and decided to headshot-crit you. 10/10
