This is a very conflicted review. Did I enjoy the game? Yes, very much. Can I recommend it? ... That's a much more complex question. The biggest thing holding me back from singing a chorus of praise is something that stems from it being a porn game - the rape depicted in the game is not something thoughtfully used, it's meant to be seen as erotic, and leads to the issue where (SPOILERS) the character who our protagonist falls in love with rapes him multiple times over the course of the story . It's a big hindrance in a game I'd otherwise consider absolutely fantastic. When it comes to OG/Patched vs. Steam (Unpatched), I actually prefer the latter. I'm not someone who hates sex scenes, but I feel the story and pacing of the game flows a lot better without them present. And indeed, the aforementioned rape scenes - though still rather tastelessly used - work better as an implied trauma than something we're directly shown. Infact, a lot of things becoming subtext rather than shown outright works better for the general mystique present in the story. The only downside to the Steam version is that some important context is lost in some scenes, and that some of the cool CGs were removed (eg the blood bathtub ). (Who knows, maybe someone will make a fan patch to add a nice middle ground to the Patch and Steam version) The music is fantastic. The writing is great. The art is good, though sometimes does not accurately reflect what the text describes. It's really a game where you need to be aware of that aforementioned content, and then make your decision if you can handle it and power through, or if it's not something that'd you'd be able to tolerate.

mpreg classic. dialectics on males with breedable hips. twink death as metaphor for the sexual fears of women. kinda bad CGs. kind of great writing, intermittently. honestly cute choice consequence system, i love any morality thing that isn't EVIL and GOOD. sick boy city :(

A surreal psychological horror story—with an excellent soundtrack highlighting the unease the protagonist feels for most of the time we are with him—that gives way to a tragic love story. There are some issues with sweet pool: some ways that the dynamics of the gay relationships are depicted—likely due to the author's own fetishizing of them—perpetuate negative stereotypes, and the story ramps up to its grand ending uncomfortably fast compared to the subdued pace of the beginning and middle of the story. However, those issues have only a minor impact on my enjoyment of sweet pool; overall, it's an engaging and emotionally impactful—both in terms of horror and sadness—story. 8/10
