It's a game with a good foundation, but it's way too easy. Once you complete the first level on easy you never die again. Every weapon in the game gets ridiculously overpowered and if you pick some of the really broken ones you barely see any enemies because they die off screen. There's definitely something here, and it's EA after all, so I'll see where it ends up, expect <6 hours for completion on brutal as a casual player in its current state.

sweet game as a 'proof of concept', but she's real rough.would have been a tight demo, but putting down money as an early access title is a bit of an ask. nice graphics, right idea with a lot of different looking things to blast, ui looks like a first draft, very limited info on offer, bugs galore - if your cursor disappears, press esc and you'll be able to line up your selection - limited weapons that have significant stat upgrades but nothing more interesting than the usual '+1' experience delivers. decent soundtrack, but sound mix is all over the shop, a noticeboard mechanic that still can't break free of the '+1' railroad, and way too easy - all content completed first try in about four hours, hadn't even bothered with half of the roster yet. all general gripes of an early access title, this one's just a bit earlier than most. there's good bones here in serious need of some good meat to wrap it all up.

[h1 ]Very short game: You basically need about 20 runs to complete all stages, open all weapons and get 90% of achievements while getting only about 40% of upgrades. One run is 20-30 min. The difficulty curve is kinda bad. It is only somewhat challenging the first 2-5 minutes, and after that it becomes boring since you effortlessly kill everything in your sight. There are people in reviews who say itā€™s too difficult and thatā€™s a gameā€™s fault for not being explicit in whatā€™s going on: my guess is that those people didnā€™t figure out the auto-aim button and couldnā€™t figure out which upgrades are better or worse overall and in particular situations. So there needs to be more transparency and explicit tutorial for those players. Problems/Suggestions: [*] Magnet pills should also pull gold and drop capsules. [*] Drop capsules should be more visible. Sometimes they are hidden behind obstacles and basically invisible. If you have ion beacons the drop capsules are impossible to notice on the ground. Make them twice bigger and brighter and make obstacles transparent if thereā€™s a capsule behind it. Make capsules be on a top layer. [*] Once you get your main weapon to 0.0s reload time the game becomes super easy and at this point you donā€™t need any other weapons, which makes them worse than useless - they drop your framerate and you canā€™t see drop capsules because everything is blowing up and sparkling. I usually manage to get 0s reload time in the first 5 minutes of the run. [*] The game needs another difficulty with more monsters spawning and them getting much thicker and faster as you progress through the run. Or a more challenging mode with limitations. Or an option to tweak amount of monsters and their HP before the run [*] Indicators on the screen borders should also show distance to the object. [*] Vigor injection achievement is bugged out and doesnā€™t count right [*] You can only pop drop crystals with your main weapon, thatā€™s kinda annoying since you have to switch from auto-aim and shoot it manually [*] Sometimes the level ends right after you kill the boss and sometimes it doesnā€™t. I don't want to end the level right after the boss dies, if you gave me 4 minutes for a level then i want to use the whole 4 minutes. Tips for those who struggling: [*] Pre-run upgrade priority is: pickup range, experience and gold gaining boost. Then damage and fire rate. Rerolls and swiftness are also useful. The rest is better to upgrade when you low on credits and canā€™t buy any upgrade from above [*] In the run focus on popping gold crystals in a few first minutes - that will get you gold. Then spend it in the armory. Your focus should be on getting your reload time to 0s or even in negative numbers. then focus on bullet count, damage and pierce and fire rate. Magazine capacity is obsolete when your reload is 0. Range and bullet speed don't matter in most cases. [*] From level ups get damage and experience boost first. Then pick your secondary weapons. [*] Grenade launcher and missile launcher are top tear in my book. Flame thrower and mines are kinda cool but they are stationary and you donā€™t want to stay in one place. ION beacons are really powerful but you wonā€™t see anything on the ground once you level them up. Laser beams are cool, but they are useless when no monsters can reach you. Any mechas are quite useless. While kamikaze spiders and harper drones are a good choice. The other weapons are either too useless or too cooldown reliant and since you canā€™t get everything from the get go, you have to choose. [*] After the first 5 minutes of the run choose unknown and shop levels on the map. You need armory and those yellow event thingies. [*] I usually donā€™t bother with salvages (green circles events) after beginning, it requires too much time for just 1 capsule and miniscule amount of gold. [*] Items and events - pick those that increase capsule drop chances, damage multiplier from 5000gold and damage boosts like 25% for enemies with 90% HP. Prioritizing those will make you a god by the middle of the run: with 100k gold, tons of items from capsules and you will be one-shotting everything. [*] Use dash. I always keep my spacebar pressed. That's all folks, i hope my bad english wasnā€™t too difficult to read.

A Bullet Hell with a banging soundtrack - The music perfectly fits the nature, setting, and tone of the game. šŸ“ Main Pros, Cons, and Suggestions: šŸŸ© Pros: + Short 2 ā€“ 3 minute stage based design + Toggle between auto and manual aim on the fly + Slay the Spire type map with a handful of stage types + Soundtrack is an aggressive mix of Rock and Synthwave + Communicative developers with a consistent history of updates + Ability synergies (evolutions) and build types (near, far, minions etc) make for an engaging experience šŸŸ„ Cons: - Presently, itā€™s lacking in content and feels difficulty gated - Character choice is irrelevant outside the opening minutes - Certain choices are illogical e.g. Gain a benefit but increase elite enemy health by 10%, or gain no benefit and increases elite enemy health by 15% - Why ever pick the second option? šŸ·ļø Suggestions: ~ More specific event icons ~ Option to toggle skill cooldown visibility ~ Increase default character movement speed ever so slightly A Competent and Visually Impressive Experience Survivors of the Dawn (SotD) is one of the most graphically advanced ā€˜survivors likeā€™ I have played, successfully delivering brilliant visuals without being overwhelming. Additionally, the music perfectly fits the nature, setting, and tone of the game. Unfortunately, most of the other mechanics at play donā€™t bring much new to the genre, and ultimately, thereā€™s nothing revolutionary about the game. In making such a strong statement, I will add that this isnā€™t a bad thing, as if you like the survivors like loop, youā€™ll have fun here. For a genre which I dare say is oversaturated, SotD stands well above many others. In particular, the ā€˜choose your own adventureā€™ style map featuring event filled stages are brilliant design choices rarely found in other survivor likes. Give Me More Events come in many forms, such as defeating a certain number of enemies, or defending a specific point for a set timeframe. Rewards vary between experience, enhancements, to powerful boosts. Additionally, you can find shops, allowing you to enhance your skills and weapons for a fee. Presently SotD is low on content, and outside of achievement hunting, everything can be completed in ten to fifteen hours. Before that however, I felt I had seen everything the game had to offer within the first few hours of play. I would love to see equipment expanded further, delivering more weapons and synergies, along with greater character diversity. While I do recommend the game for fans of the genre, as it really is a cut above many others I have played. Please remember, it is an Early Access title, the content isnā€™t as vast or as engaging as other survivor likes I have been fortunate enough to play. The foundations are impressive however, and I expect big things as SotD continues to be expanded.
