It is basically a wargame with many scenarios but the diplomacy is barebone and economy do affect your country.

If you feel like Hearts of Iron 4 could be nerdier on the military side with a more realistic economy, this is the game for you.

This game is so complex, you may need a prescription for adderall just to figure it out. I've played over 150 hours and have just scratched the surface on being able to actually do things in the game. Worth the price though, and even if you can't figure it out it's still fun and interesting to see the real world statistics from all the countries of the world. Good simulation here....

This may be one of the definitive high-level global strategy games of all time. When you go into this game, don't expect it to be a quick campaign unless you are playing a canned scenario with limited objectives. If you intend to do a world takeover in the Global game, you will be at it LONG term. And the longer you are at it, the tougher some of your foes will be to crack at the end -- as one example, after 12 years of game time, if Canada doesn't engage in any wars outside its borders, you can expect they'll have an army roughly the size of WW2 Soviet Union and at least 5 times more effective than the Soviets were. Trying to take over Toronto won't be pretty. You can play it peacefully, but I haven't tried that myself. Too busy trying to take over the world. Highly recommended for long-term thinking campaign. Bring patience and an understanding of real-world warfare principles. No one unit you field will be able to do it all, you will need an all-of-the-above strategy or you will get smoked by a country half your size. Good luck!
