Amazing game that still holds up great today. It is the perfect mix of a global simulation that is not to complicated but deep enough to keep you hooked. Nothing is more fun than taking a smaller country like Zambia, building it up and conquering half the globe against all odds!

Well this has been sitting in my library for at least 3 years, completely untouched. So the fact that I just played 2.2 hours straight doesn't mean that I have to decide whether to keep it - I'm well past the time to ask for a refund. I avoided playing this because back when it was available in a box, before Steam was around, it had such horrible reviews that I just stayed away from it, but I wondered about it too. The few people who liked it REALLY liked it. Then I decided I'd try to find a tutorial video, and I found one on youtube that was 45 minutes long, and after watching it, it felt like the game was suddenly approachable and interesting. So I gave it whirl. I should have been in bed 2 hours ago, but instead I just couldn't stop playing. Really so far "playing" has meant nothing but moving sliders around. Changing the tax rates and changing allocations between agencies. It's a big juggling act trying to decrease corruption and increase approval rating, while trying to get into a net positive balance. [The UI is really confusing though - I don't understand some of the basic UI controls, but that's also my fault for not playing the tutorial too.] The draw is that eventually I can crank up the research and start designing my own tanks and other military technologies, and that sounds pretty fun. I haven't gotten that far - all I've done is lower my corruption, lower inflation and increase approval. But those little rewards go a long way, and I think this is a keeper.

This was the first game I got on Steam: the reason I got Steam was so I could buy Superpower 2 and Portal. I watched Commissar Bro's videos on the game back in 2014 and saw how interesting it was. For those who play grand strategy games, it's enjoyable from time to time. The gameplay isn't perfect, but mods can help. It might be the most underrated strategy video game ever.

I love the detail of the this game and how I caused economic failure to North Korea right after making it a multi party democracy lmao good times good times!!!! It's a pretty cool game and I've seen so many say that you can't adjust the size of the screen but yes you can by going to the game's local file from within you'll want to scroll down until you see SP2 editor/launch thingy which lets you pick whatever screen size your heart desires! :) So can this game punish you? yess because I've been idiotic way too many times but is it fun though? Definitely, so if you like a lengthy experience that isn't over within 15 minutes you might want to pick this one up because you literally control everything!!

Control countries and develop them, and if you so desire, aim for world domination. Even with the smallest of countries like the Vatican. The bulk of the gameplay occurs around a beautifully desiigned 3D Earth globe. Smaller individual state/provinces/etc. and can be individually conquered and annexed. Individual cities are also depicted in the game. The premise is quite entertaining, though it is very simplified. Especially the military side, where there are no logistics and mechanics tend to favor amassing huge single swaths of troops rather than smaller army groups. AI is very poor and other countries will hardly change - i.e. developing countries will be poor forever and have larger and larger populations while developed countries will stagnate and their population will decrease due to aging. Multiplayer would offer more competition if it were not so small and full of cheaters. The database is quite old, not surprising the game was released two decades ago. Nevertheless, there is an editor available - clunky to use, but it works - and plenty of third-party mods available to change things up in the game. I quite like the music which fits the gameplay's mood just fine. There are bugs do get in the way - for example, occasionally patches of enemy armies will turn into "stasis", not attacking you but also impossible to defeat as well. There is also the occasional crash to desktop as well. Overall there is lots of space for improvement, but the premise works and there are no similar games in the market at its level. I owned it also the DVD version obtained at release. While at release I would have rated it at 7/10, at the current price in Steam, I rate it 8/10
