In the world of half-baked sports simulators, this game stand out as a statement of "more fun = better experience with a video game." Like the 2k of old and the few retro fifa games (football/soccer), this game is unadulterated fun and nothing else. I have very little experience with hockey but this game singlehandly made me a fan, even though I am pretty sure the real thing doesn't involve fatal groin injuries and inmates haha. There is an addictive joy to this game that is brilliant from the get go and so rewarding to engage with. It has it's flaws (the pass mechanic, the goal scoring is one dimensional etc etc) but even with its small flaws it delivers a fun and thoroughly enjoyable experience as an arcade sports game. Try this, you'll love it (especially if you are like me and are frustrated with the AAA sports sims).

Game's pretty fun, pass mechanics are super wonky and there's only one way to get goals. I like the franchise mode, just wish it had a little 'more,' but maybe I'm just looking for something else and should appreciate this for the fun that it is.

I don't even like hockey, but I absolutely love this game! It's been sitting in my library for years now, I don't even remember buying it. Just sat there like all my other backlog games, and one day I decided why not I'll play it for a few hours. A few hours became days in the franchise mode. Watching a team of convicts bashing each other's brains out and getting into fights and its not even the end of the first quarter. The enemy team's enforcer getting a fatal groin injury. Dying on the ice as my team skate over this lifeless corpse. It's pure joy, pure unfiltered joy. So stupid, so maniacal, so absolutely fun. Developer I know you've made a kaiju game and I bought that too, but if there's any chance at all you read this review. Please I beg of you, do this with a football game. My god it would be PERFECT.

Nostalgic, violent, challenging, fun That's really all there is to it. A great homage to ~90s~ hockey games with a no-holds-barred take. Bravo. The only drawback at the moment is no cloud saves, but this is just a minor inconvenience.

Remember back in 1989 when you went to your buddies, and it's xmas break, and all you did was play Nintendo Ice Hockey? Well, this game will bring ya back to your childhood -- like it did for me. But it has a lot more to offer than nostalgia value. For example, the Franchise Mode is worth playing an entire season. And don't worry if you suck. I was 0 - 4. But then I learned how to pass and shoot... and more importantly knock out 1 or 2 players so you get an unfair advantage. So, yeah, it's a bit annoying at first because scoring isn't easy. But as you play more, your players' stats will get better, and you'll figure out a strategy that will work best for you. The strategy that worked for me is, buy the best goalie you can. And then buy the CHEAPEST Sniper, Payermaker, and Enforcer you can. I had 1 Sniper, 2 Playermakers, 1 Enforcer. And as you play your season, your cheap players' stats will get better over time. And if a dude get's injured, then buy a new player. But don't splurge. Keep money because you have daily costs. And I think the best part is seeing your group of players get better and improve their stats. And you get attached to them, and know their strengths and weaknesses. It kinda reminds me of FTL where you grew attached to your squad because you went through some tough battles. Also, looking at their stats and seeing how your players develop over a season is rewarding because they (i.e. you) worked to improve their progress. Anyway, I'm in Season 2 after winning my first Season. Looking forward to seeing how my players progress and getting them all to rank 99. edit: forgot! I played it on my Steam Deck. Prefect game for the Deck.
