Bawling my eyes out the whole time, wondering... is it me or the game? It is 100% me. This game isn't relatable. It doesn't have you reflecting and feeling all sorts of warm fuzzies. It doesn't have a heart felt story, beautiful artwork or relaxing music. I am the problem ^_^ Anyways, thanks for bringing my 2 joys together... gaming and crying hehe :3 ~ signed, the BIGGEST crybaby on all of Steam ♥

I'm really weak to emotional narratives, I get too involved with the characters or the story, and they sneak into the corners of my soul. Sumire is a proposal that aims to pull at the heartstrings, whether with beautiful and adorable moments, or sad ones that come to feel more like stabs. Presented with some really beautiful visuals, a calm but at times energizing soundtrack, and a protagonist that one can't help but want to protect, it was a game that left me pleasantly surprised. The story follows Sumire, a little girl who hooks us from the start with a theme of loneliness and grief. Her mother pays no attention to her, ever since she plunged into a void of hopelessness after her separation with her husband, and her best friend has grown distant and no longer knows how to reconcile with her. One can't help but feel sorry for Sumire, as these are very mundane feelings and ones that most of us can relate to. Fortunately, something will change on the night the game starts. After dreaming about her grandmother and not being able to interpret the meaning behind it, a seed falls from the sky, and from it sprouts a beautiful and magical flower. It explains to Sumire that it has only one day to live, and wants her to take it to spend the best possible day, being more of a gift for the girl than for the flower. It is then that they both set off on the adventure, with no fixed destination but with a clear goal: to make it an experience to remember. As we advance we’ll find different situations, where we can make Sumire choose between two options, and we’ll shape our ending depending on our actions. Basically, there is a karma system, and we’ll have to behave well or take the girl down a darker path. The second one hit me much harder and I recommend doing it first in any case, as it deals with the characters in a different way. It's a plot full of morals and situations that several of us are familiar with. Loneliness, loss, the search for understanding, all intertwine in a very touching way. Besides, some Japanese traditions are explored, they show us for example the steps to follow to pray in a temple and some other little details, adding a cultural touch that I personally like. On the other hand, each action we take will make a petal fall from our flower, giving us a visual representation of the progression, and a notion of our current karma depending on the color it takes. At the same time, we’ll have a to-do list, where Sumire will write down the things she wants to do that day, further clarifying the objective of the adventure. It should be noted that it is not mandatory to do everything, it is at the player's discretion. In terms of gameplay, it is very accessible for all types of players, as it has no difficult sections or hair-pulling puzzles. It is a very quiet journey in that aspect, with some mini-games and mostly conversations. The visuals are what stands out the most along the story, in my opinion, stylized as watercolors or brushstrokes that fascinated me, especially in some environments that are simply beautiful. The accompanying tunes set up a nice ambient, and some have vocals that elevate the experience even more. All in all, Sumire is a short, but beautiful game. It seeks to evoke different feelings in us, immerse us in a colorful world to guide our protagonist along the path that feels right. The absence of complicated mechanics only serves to make the spiritual journey more pleasant, full of touching and bittersweet moments. Needless to say, I liked it a lot, and it's usually very cheap on sale, so it would be criminal not to give it a try.
