Had I not played and enjoyed the first installment of this fine series, that front cover of Rhok’zan, the blasphemous goat milf of my dream, would have gored itself into my mind and lived there eternally, rent free.. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3240393785 Sucker for Love 2 expands on the great promise of courting eldritch horrors and weaves a great narrative around Stardust, a forlorn girl looking for her past in a town of pale reflections. This time however, we only ever get to court one god, but in addition the game introduces a whole cult of quirk side characters as well as some cameos from ages past, all with top notch voice acting as a cherry on the top! This time around the gameplay got more of a slasher horror wibe to it and the 90s aesthetics are spot on. Some of the segments felt a bit slow paced but overall the creepy ambience of the dilapidated house with its occult paraphernalia strewn about made for a joysome crawl. The game is fairly short (around 6 hours) and worked decently on a Steam Deck. I would argue it is well worth it if you are into light dating sims, quirky humor with excellent lewd dialogues broken up with wanton bloodshed. This is high quality smut for the modern cultists with a furry (or eldritch horror, pick your poison) edge to it! Time to write some wriggly fanfic! ^_^

Well, after playing the first game, I never thought that the second game would have parts and things that would leave me as an anxious mess, screaming softly to myself as I dash wildly through the house that I now know WAY TOO WELL as a result of being said anxious mess. Opening doors scary. Other people scary. THANKS I HATE IT. 10/10 would add a thousand tally marks on a wall again.

Sucker for Love: Date to Die For is not like the first game. But it doesn't try to be. It is honestly refreshing to see a game dev willing to branch out and experiment rather than just make an updated version of the same thing as before. And in this experiment, AkaBaka succeeds with flying colors. I love the new character Stardust, and how her relationship with Rhok'zan develops. The way she clashes with the various villains and how she overcomes them is honestly touching, and the story ends in a very satisfying way, especially for fans of the original. In terms of game mechanics, while I do miss the dating sim mechanics from the first Sucker for Love, the much improved horror aspect of the sequel more than makes up for it. Traversing the house for the first time is genuinely spooky, and the way it ramps up in the next chapters is great! The idea of a home being violated and made unsafe by unknown, hostile enemies is a great horror trope. There are a handful of jumpscares, but the game doesn't rely on them as a crutch. You WILL get a lot of jumpscares if you're not good at navigating the house, but by the third chapter you will have definitely memorized the house layout. Mild spoilers, but one moment that really stands out to me is the first time I was trying to avoid Billie. I had opened a door about halfway just as I saw the Billie enter the room, closed it, backed up, and ran away. It was very tense, in the best of ways. On that note, the door opening mechanic is SUCH a good touch. It harkens back to classic Resident Evil, only instead of waiting for the cutscene to end, you have to open it yourself, and that little bit of extra player control makes it pretty scary in the early game. The first time I opened a door all the way at once without checking what was on the other side was the first time I got really scared, and damn that was good. From then on until the last chapter, I was very slowly opening doors, and spotting the instant death on the other side just before it got me. Lastly, I really appreciate that the power of love is still the main story element. For Darling, it was a lustful love that overcame the eldritch powers beyond the stars, and for Stardust, it was her platonic love for mankind, even the ones that were her enemies, that won the day. 10/10, make Muu romanceable in Sucker for Love 3!
