A simple and beautiful adventure offering a short journey across a ravaged world, unfortunately the story doesn’t unfold as well as it could have done and the puzzles and platforming sections are very basic. Still, this is a relaxing trip worth playing. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3361390538

Submerged Hidden Depths Follows on from the previous installment that stays true to the original open world puzzle exploration. Very much an upgrade that doesn't lose the charm that the original version has to offer. 7/10 Average completion time: 8 hours Number of achievements: 14 Difficulty: casual Replay-ability: done in 1 playthrough Online playerbase: N/A

I really love the Submerged series as it has a bit of everything; exploration, nature and its creatures, mystery, lore and collectables. This one is much easier than the first game as everything you need to use has your chosen colour to show the way. Children can watch you play until the mood changes mid game. Miku and Taku have a new city to explore. Miku has a gift of restoring life and growth and is able to banish the corruption that has enfolded many of the buildings. Taku, her brother, is worried about the effect this 'gift' has on her. Together they explore the city and discover the story via diaries littered around the place. They also collect boat parts and new styles for their boat, clothing and hair and relics from the past. Also to be found are the creatures of the sea and land plus the landmarks and lookouts of the city. So lots to do! One of the great joys of this game is the exploration by boat. The controls are a bit wonky, but as the game progresses, these become better. I found that by pressing the space bar...the boat speeds along. You sail on the ocean with stingrays, dolphins, pelicans, whales and swordfish accompanying you. A real sense of freedom hits you as you speed across the water. The day/night cycle is very short, so the scenery is changing all the time and it was just gorgeous! You even get blasted by tropical storms! The graphics are stunning...quite a markup from the previous game. It did take its toll on my gaming laptop and heated it up like crazy, but reducing the graphics from ultra to medium helped. You can't die in this game and you can't fall from anything. You often have to swing across things but just pressing W carries you across, so there isn't much challenge at all. But it was deliberately designed this way to make this game accessible to those with less quick reflexes, so I applaud the devs on this decision. Accompanying the gorgeous graphics was soaring orchestral music which made travelling along the boat quite a cinematic experience. I loved it! An interesting feature was that every collectable has it's own 'song'....meaning they all had their individual sound. So if you're close to something and can't see it, you follow the sound. The downside is that Miku sometimes couldn't step onto something....you always have to go via steps. The movement made me a little nauseous, so I reduced the camera sensitivity which helped massively. In the end, it was a little grindy to get all the collectables and achievements, but once you finish the game you can go back in to mop up the missing pieces. There is a good map for reference in the game and some excellent walkthroughs for the missing collectables. I reluctantly had to drag myself away from the game as I was having far too much fun in the boat with all the sea creatures. Ironically, in real life, I get very seasick!! I can imagine more experienced gamers speedrunning this game, but this is like a good wine; to be savoured slowly and enjoy the view. So put on your suntan lotion and bucket hat and sail into the sunset. 8.5/10

An immensely enjoyable (and relatively stress-free......though perhaps too stress free) exploration, puzzle platforming and collection game, sequel to the previous "Submerged". I had a great deal of fun navigating the ocean looking for mutated fauna, points of interest, wreckage for power-ups for the boat, etc. However.......the game is not without its flaws. Positives: *Graphics* Colourful, vibrant, eye-pleasing.....all these adjectives apply, and even on my increasingly out of date graphics card (1050 TI), the game still looked great, and more importantly, played great (although there were some frame-rate drops, to be sure!) *Gameplay* The central gameplay loop of boating around and exploring ruined buildings in this drowned world is downright addictive, and I had a blast......but I'm also going to ding the gameplay a bit below....I had a minor and a major kvetch. Meh: *Music* It's not bad, truly its not, but neither is it great.....just rather mid......and even a little cheesy sometimes. *Gameplay* If you have played the previous game, than there really isn't much other than a new gameplay mechanism that you haven't seen before........even the story chops/beats are quite similar. Now I know that as I sequel it sure should share some thematic and gameplay DNA with its predecessor, but this is REALLY derivative of the previous game. I didn't mind TOO much, because I really liked the first game, but the similarities became a little been-there-done-that after awhile (IMO). Negatives: *Gameplay* It sure it fun.....but it's too easy.....I know, I know, I usually love easy games, but there are numerous platforming challenges here with beams to balance across, gaps to leap, etc etc and they all amount to "push forward to win". You literally cannot fall. Now, this absolutely allows you to explore with a sense of wonder and awe and not have to worry about plummeting to your doom (ever!) which does have its upsides, but there were so many awesome challenges that looked great from a puzzle platformer perspective that 100% (IMO) lost a little something for being impossible to screw up; as I said, once you're on the beam, just push the arrow keys (or WASD, whatever) in the right direction and the character automatically leaps over gaps, balances on thin beams, etc. *Story/Narrative* The problem with having an open world game with true freedom to explore any location you want in whatever order you desire, is that the story-based objects that will unlock the background of this region to you the player can be accessed in any order.........which means that you will possibly (and it my case, absolutely!) unlock story/background information in such a way that you know the middle and end of the story first without knowing what came first, totally robbing the narrative of any sense of story progression. You will eventually learn the whole tale, but ask any reader; would it matter to you if you read the last chapters of a fantasy novel first, followed by a chapter or two from the beginning, then read the middle chapters, then perused the remaining opening chapters? Of course it would. Sure you eventually get the whole picture, but it is more or less drained of any narrative heft. Regardless, the game was still fun and enjoyable, so I'm going to recommend it, just be aware that it does have some hefty flaws. Recommended.

An exploration game where you can not fail which has some really easy and straight forward puzzles. It is not a challenge to play the game at all, but it is an enjoyable experience to explore around a mostly submerged city. I played the original 6 years ago so I don't remember the details, but I remember liking the original more than this one. Also on this one I kept getting stuck on things about when walking which is not ideal. Works without any issues on Linux with Proton (8.0-5).
