Great strategic WW2 game. You have research and diplomacy options which allow you to upgrade your units and try to entice neutral countries to join your side potentially changing history. Also there are mods and user created scenarios which allow for good replayability.

Amazing Grand Strategy Game for WWII that in my opinion falls right in between Hex of Steel and the Hearts of Iron series. **Absolutely huge world map but the map is ugly as hell and old school tech......it needs an update badly.** That said, like most Grand Strategy games out there the modding community is outstanding and is working (as of this comment's time stamp) on a complete re-work of the world map that is very historically accurate with better graphics and it's almost completed. Other modder's have introduced updated sprites which are of a very high quality. Thank God for an active and highly skilled modding community. It's 2025 soon.............Multiplayer function is ok but could have been done much better with a Triple AAA Gaming / HOI Series type set up where you can remain connected to each other while you play together rather than having to send packets back and forth. Other then these points, I am glad I purchased the game (I bought the entire series) as it's a lot of fun to play and the size of the map, the supply, the guts of the game itself are amazing.

A big upgrade with lots of improvements over previous versions (Big map, lots of new units, research slowly grows with ocassional breakthroughs), heaps of interesting historical facts and pop-ups as the war goes on and lots of decisions to make. I only play axis vs the AI and use the editor to make it a challenge but possible to win, its very powerful allowing you to edit what units the AI receives, your starting money you cna even clear starting enemy units. My favourite part is invading my home city of Christchurch NZ with the japanese army :)

I bought this game some time ago and was put off by the jerky scrolling across the map. I recently revisited the Slitherine collection and realising I had this game fired it up again and persevered with the manual and the opening moves. Im so glad that I did. I tend to use the keyboard to scroll around the map and find this has overcome my initial misgivings. The game has just the right amount of complexity for me alongside reasonable unit graphics. The fighter interceptor and escort system handles that aspect very well leaving you free to concentrate on how to use your tactical bombers. I am currently enjoying the game and still exploring all of the features. I have been playing strategy games for more years than I care to remember and heartily recommend this one. Looking forward to further Slitherine games when I have completed my axis campaign. **Have played on now and whilst I enjoy the "game-play" I now realise there is no way to win as the Axis. I appreciate the historical factors involved but I believe that they restrict the 'game' aspects. I even tried again with the FoG lifted but found this gave the AI carte blanche to pick off my navy one by one with the vastly greater number of allied ships. Not loving it as much now although is that because I cant seem to 'win' as the axis?

One can feel the that the designers have a love / commitment to this game. This game is a bit deep, but golly if one plays to keep the mind sharp, to learn something, to learn history (see below)... this is a noble "quest." I love games that teach history as one plays. This has the correct historical flow to make this a historical game. The only criticism of this game is the China campaign is not historical, and this is true. But a historical China would involve massive supply issues, micro diplomacy/deals, and a "sits-krieg" if one is familiar with that term. Overall, the China theater allocation of resources, the effect on the Pacific theater as a whole - does have a historical feel. Thus, i totally endorse this one game-design-artistic-license to make this game superb! WWII study does have many lessons for the modern day - (too many to mention, but including media propaganda, And my personal observation that WWII began the moment WWI ended - with the Yreaty of Versailes.)
