I 100%-ed this game, so I feel like I can give an Apt review. TLDR: Game has some flaws, if the game is on sale id buy it, otherwise id wait. This game NAILS its atmosphere, you truly feel like you are alone on an island and you have to find your way back to land. However this game has many problems: if you try to build roofs the game can soft lock forcing a reset with no way to save; the gameplay is impossible without using the cartographer option in the title menu, there is no clue in game to get to the mandatory bosses or to the aircraft carrier ; The islands feel samey, 3 boats with the same 24 items inside them, maybe a pig or boar to attack, once you've done it 4 times you don't need to do it the next 42. Achievement wise some are really cool, like finding all survivor remnants and crafting every single item. Some are padding like playing 100 days (I got maxed stats, all bosses, all other achievements, and visited all 46 islands in 65 days). And some are broken like the escape without a compass (thank god) you just cant have a compass in your inventory when you do escape. For a game that was developed over the course of a decade by 2 people, this is both incredibly impressive, and incredibly unpolished. This game needs a strong update with bug fixes and an in game way to reveal the bosses and I would say it is perfect for what it is trying to achieve. Overall, buy it if it is on sale, if not I'd pass. I didn't get the chance to play multiplayer on this game, so the experience might be different, but from a solo player perspective it is NOT worth $20
Stranded Deep is one of those survival games that can be both incredibly relaxing and absolutely terrifying depending on what’s happening around you. One moment you’re peacefully building a shelter on a tropical island, and the next you’re desperately trying not to get eaten by a shark after your raft flips over in the middle of the ocean. The game does a great job of making survival feel rewarding. Finding food, collecting water, crafting tools, and slowly turning a tiny island camp into a functional base gives a strong sense of progression. Exploring nearby islands is also genuinely exciting, especially early on when every trip feels risky. What really makes the game memorable is the atmosphere. Sailing across open water during storms or diving into deep shipwrecks creates some surprisingly tense moments, especially if you’re not a fan of the ocean. The good: - Great survival atmosphere - Ocean exploration feels immersive - Building and crafting are satisfying - Strong sense of progression - Exploring islands stays interesting - Storms and ocean travel create real tension - Relaxing when things are going well - Resource management feels rewarding - Base building is enjoyable - The game can be genuinely scary at times The bad: - Bugs and physics issues can be frustrating - Inventory management is annoying - Combat feels clunky - Raft controls can be awkward - Gameplay becomes repetitive later on - AI behavior is pretty basic - Progression slows down significantly - Some survival mechanics become tedious - Multiplayer/co-op feels rough around the edges Overall, Stranded Deep is a solid survival game that delivers some genuinely memorable moments, especially during exploration and ocean travel. It’s janky at times, but if you enjoy survival games and the idea of being stranded in the middle of the ocean sounds appealing, there’s a lot to like here.
Stranded Deep: Is an okay survival game, but I would mostly recommend it on sale because it has not aged that well. The idea is still very cool. You survive after a plane crash in the Pacific Ocean, explore islands, scavenge shipwrecks, craft tools, build shelter, make rafts, and try to live off the sea. I liked the survival feeling and the idea of slowly building a life across different islands. Being able to live on the ocean in that way is probably the best part of the game. The gameplay loop is okay. You gather resources, craft better gear, manage hunger and thirst, explore, hunt, and try to push further. It can be fun, but it can also become slow and frustrating. The game can feel pretty hardcore at times, and some parts are more painful than enjoyable. The 100% completion is grindy, and the achievement for not using a compass was especially painful. That one really hurt the overall completion experience for me. The game has good survival ideas, but the achievement hunt can make the weak parts stand out more. I would recommend Stranded Deep only on sale, mainly to survival fans, strategy players, story players, and achievement hunters who do not mind some frustration. It is not a bad game, but it feels dated now.
