Hello there, fellow time traveler! You've been probably wondering if its worth it playing Steins;Gate visual novel after finishing the anime or the VN and i can tell you: YES! It is 100% worth it. There are so many scenes which were not in the anime like all the different endings and bunch of new dialogue. If you have played the prequel, then you should get this game for sure. Its an alternative world where Okabe couldn't save Kurisu and Mayuri, its a world filled with pain, sadness and hatred. I dont wanna tell you too much about it, because you should see it for yourself. It took me around 50 hours to get all endings and 100% achievements. All endings are totally worth it because its new content which did not get shown in the anime. This is by far my my favorite anime / VN of all time. I've watched the anime countless of times and i'd recommend it to anyone who loves Sci-Fi stuff. We'll meet again in Steins;??? my fellow mad Scientist. El Psy Kongroo.

The only me is me. Are you sure the only you is you? I’ll state this right off the bat: while Steins;Gate 0 is a brilliant game, it doesn't quite match the emotional depth and impact of the original. That said, it’s clear that the developers never intended for it to surpass the first game, but rather to offer something different—an exploration of a darker, more introspective narrative. The central theme revolves around Artificial Intelligence , specifically the development of an AI that is capable of complex emotional responses and evolving consciousness. This topic feels particularly relevant today, given the rapid advancements in AI and its increasing presence in our lives. AI in Steins;Gate 0 The story centers on a project called " Amadeus ", which is an AI system that is capable of storing and emulating the personality and memories of a person, making it indistinguishable from the real person in terms of behavior and interaction. The story explores the implications of this technology: how it affects relationships, the ethics of creating digital copies of consciousness, and the philosophical questions surrounding the nature of identity and humanity . This idea leads to profound emotional conflict, as characters grapple with interacting with AI that is, in many ways, a continuation of lost loved ones. The Relevance of AI Today Fast forward to today, and the ideas presented in Steins;Gate 0 are more relevant than ever. The concept of AI mimicking human emotions, personalities, and even replicating someone’s voice or mannerisms is no longer purely theoretical, but increasingly achievable. Many companies and research institutions are working on making AI systems capable of engaging in conversations that feel human-like, developing deep learning algorithms that allow machines to recognize and respond to emotional cues. This technological landscape brings the game's exploration of AI to the forefront of contemporary debates. Ethical and Philosophical Considerations [*] Can AI truly replicate human consciousness? As AI technology progresses, we see more examples of AI being used in ways that mimic aspects of human behavior. However, as Steins;Gate 0 suggests, there is still a fundamental difference between a digital simulation and an actual person, no matter how convincing the AI might seem. [*] The ethics of AI consciousness: If AI can simulate consciousness, should it be treated with the same rights as humans? Is it ethical to create digital beings that are aware of their own artificiality? [*] AI and memory: The emotional weight of memory is central to Steins;Gate 0. AI that preserves memories, like Amadeus, raises questions about the authenticity of these memories. If an AI "remembers" something, is it the same as a human remembering it, or does the experience lose its emotional depth when reproduced by a machine? Notes on New Characters Hiyajo Maho I truly believe that Hiyajo Maho is the standout character added to the game. She is a well-rounded character with clearly defined traits, and her dialogues are, by far, the most thought-provoking in the entire game. As a friend of Kurisu's, Maho shared a professional and personal connection with her, having worked together in AI research and development in the U.S. Like Okabe, Maho is deeply affected by Kurisu’s death . The conversations between Maho and Okabe about their shared experiences with Kurisu are some of the most impactful moments in the game. It’s evident that both characters held immense respect and affection for her, with Maho even describing Kurisu as " the Mozart to her Salieri ". Writing a character like Maho without making her feel like a mere replacement for Kurisu must have been a challenge, but I’m pleased to say that Maho is so well-developed that, from the very start, she feels like a fully realized individual in her own right. Her unique presence injects a fresh dynamic into the narrative, adding emotional depth and complexity without feeling like she's some sort of "replacement" for Kurisu . Shiina Kagari I have to be honest and say that I do not care much for Kagari. She’s a character who often feels absent, even when she’s physically present in scenes. Unfortunately, Kagari comes across as a shoehorned-in character with too little personality for players to really latch onto. While she does have a role in the story, I found it difficult to connect with her, and her emotional development didn’t resonate as strongly as with other characters. Her ending was, by far, the worst one ; it came out of nowhere and honestly it left a sour taste in my mouth. Kaede Kurushima/Katsumi Nakase I honestly had to look up their names to include them in this review— that’s how little of an impact they left on me. To put it simple: they’re both Mayuri's friends and feel totally like filler characters. Both of them are largely irrelevant to the main plot, and their presence never really adds anything meaningful. They don’t stand out in terms of personality, development, or emotional depth, and by the end of the game, it’s hard to remember much about them. Amane Yuki Yuki's character is a bit difficult to assess, as her development can take dramatic turns depending on the route you choose. Overall, though, I don’t feel her presence detracts from the main experience. Alexis Leskinen Dr. Leskinen is an enjoyable character whose enthusiasm shines through every scene. He’s mischievous and adds humor, especially in the early parts of the game. His character takes some interesting turns, and his ending is sure to surprise many, manipulating both Okabe’s and the player’s attachment to Kurisu in clever ways. Judy Reyes Judy feels underdeveloped, with little screen time and a role that doesn’t justify her presence. The game asks us to accept her suddenly significant role in the plot without giving us the time to develop an attachment to her, which feels lazy. A better example of a more effective character reveal would be Tennouji’s unexpected "double agent" twist in the original Steins;Gate, which felt earned due to the time spent building his character. Positives [*] Soundtrack - The music is still top-notch, setting the perfect tone for the game’s emotional moments. [*] Voice acting - The voice performances are excellent, continuing the high standard set by the original. [*] Character designs - The updated character designs are a visual improvement, and the addition of mouth movements during dialogue adds a new layer of animation to the scenes. [*] Enhanced visuals - The game's visuals are more dynamic, and the characters now move their mouths during dialogue, which, though minor, brings more life to the scenes compared to the original’s static images. Negatives [*] Pacing - Can feel sluggish at times, especially with the shift in perspectives. [*] RINE - While text messages were important in the original game, the use of RINE messages here feels way less impactful. Conclusion In the end, Steins;Gate 0 is an excellent visual novel that builds on the foundation laid by its predecessor. While, in my optinion, it may not surpass the original in terms of impact, it offers a dark, thought-provoking narrative that remains highly relevant to today’s AI discussions. The game’s exploration of grief, memory, and artificial consciousness will leave a lasting impression, even as it explores difficult, philosophical questions about the future of AI. El. Psy. Kongroo.

Steins;Gate 0 is a very important story to understand what happened at the end of Steins;Gate. The Positive - Art. Although I had to get used to it, it's a bit different from S;G. I did like most of it. There are some returning characters of which I prefer the S;G art more, especially Daru. - Voice acting. Perfect as always. Again, only Daru here for some reason I was a bit disappointed with. Not sure if I am imagining things but it's like his voice was more 'quirky' than in S;G. - Story. From Mad Scientist to Sad Scientist and the reawakening of the Mad Scientist again . This is the story right after he fails to save Kurisu the first time in S;G. He has given up. Depression, no more delusions. There are some major moments that made me jump from my chair, for instance when the worldline shifted when everyone was having fun at the x-mas party, to Okabe being in the middle of WW3 with death around every corner . But there were also some boring sequences that failed to keep my attention. In S;G I never had the urge to skip through dialogue, but here I sometimes did. Those moments were mostly in the alternate endings, so it's not a big deal. I must say some of the things I enjoyed were Tennouji helping Okabe out after Okabe reveals his knowledge of him being a SERN Rounder and Moeka getting closer to Maho and acting more human . - Music. If Mozart lived in present time making game music, it would be this. I think on average the BGM in S;G is slightly better, but S;G 0 has some very strong tracks with character motives and deeper meanings. The Negative - RINE messaging is basically a simplified Mail messaging system. What I liked about mails in S;G is that you had an inbox and outbox of mails that you could look into. Meaning that some mails were there on certain worldlines and some weren't. And there would also be mails that were sent or received in between scenes. - Achievements are not creative. Almost every achievement you will get by simply playing all endings. There are like 2 achievements which you can miss. - The true ending. It's short. I was expecting a bit more. I believe the anime goes deeper here. - How Okabe interacts with the RINE message he received from another worldline/ending. Don't get me wrong I think the idea of a certain ending influencing a chapter in the past after playing it again is simply genius, but that is exactly why I am disappointed with the execution. The image of 'Kyouma' flashes real quick when he receives the message, he reads it and continues like nothing happened. And then this gives you a continuation to the True ending after getting to the Mayuri ending again. I expected more drastic changes here. - The Story. I'm putting this in both positive and negative. There are some strong points in the story I explained above but ultimately there are a lot of loose ends and some things feel incomplete. Once again I believe the anime fixes most of it (I have to rewatch it soon). Kagari seems like a nice person but I don't feel like I am too interested in her character, wish more of her backstory was explained, although seeing how Mayuri interacts with her is at times heartwarming. Other newer characters like Maho and Leskinen were much more enjoyable. Verdict 8/10. The VN feels a bit incomplete, but in the end still a great sequel. There are some very strong moments, but it has trouble with keeping that momentum throughout the playthrough.

About STEINS;GATE 0 Although this game may seem quite depressing at a first impression - it's not as dark as it may seem and I can say without doubt that STEINS;GATE 0 is one of the best science fiction visual novels ever written. As the game description states, it is the sequel to STEINS;GATE. The game is entirely based on a different version of the true ending to STEINS;GATE, so if you haven't already, play STEINS;GATE first! If you haven't completed STEINS;GATE, stop reading my review, because it contains STEINS;GATE spoilers. In STEINS;GATE 0, you'll truly realize the importance of reaching the STEINS;GATE and learn about the origin of the term "deceive". If you remember, at the end of the true route of STEINS;GATE, Okabe received a video file of himself mentioning the term. In STEINS;GATE 0, you'll see the long term results of Okabe refusing to attempt to undo Kurisu's murder. Throughout STEINS;GATE 0, you'll witness a depressed, hopeless Okabe who wants to forget everything he did as Kyouma. Okabe will often refer to his time as Kyouma as his "dark history" or his "dark past". Without Kurisu, Okabe is now residing in the Beta worldline with an alive Mayuri. He is no longer living in the Alpha worldline, in which he came from. Okabe wishes to live a peaceful future without Kurisu, but unfortunately, just six months later after he makes his decision to leave Kurisu dead, fate decided to have other plans in store for Okabe. Okabe is introduced to new characters. A few of these new characters have developed AI technology that uses memories that were given to the AI by humans at a specific date. Using those memories, the AI can be like the human up to the latest memory. Kurisu is one of the developers of the AI. Kurisu offered her memories to it at some point and subsequently created a variant of the AI called "Amadeus [Kurisu]" which is basically an AI Kurisu. Fate brings the living AI creators and Okabe together, and Okabe becomes a tester of the AI. Thanks to this, he is now able to interact with an AI Kurisu. Is the privilege of being an AI tester a blessing or a regrettable curse? Read this story to find out! STEINS;GATE 0 vs. STEINS;GATE Just like in STEINS;GATE, there are multiple endings in STEINS;GATE 0. Unlike in STEINS;GATE where D-mailing led to route splits, in STEINS;GATE 0 certain calls lead to route splits. There's a total of 7 new characters in STEINS;GATE 0 that weren't in STEINS'GATE! One of them was referenced before STEINS;GATE 0 and the other debuted in a spin-off game called STEINS;GATE: My Darling's Embrace which released after STEINS;GATE but before STEINS;GATE 0! For the first time ever, you'll notice others experiencing Reading Steiner! Unlike STEINS;GATE, the game isn't entirely first person. Throughout the game, the narrative kind of switches between the perspectives of different characters like how it did in STEINS;GATE: Linear Bounded Phenogram and there is third person narration often at times (especially when we're seeing through another character's eyes). Remember SERN from STEINS;GATE? Well, they're not the organization you have to fear for in STEINS;GATE 0...there are now other organizations to fear! And remember the WW3 threat in STEINS;GATE? Well, you should add an information extraction war to it. The visual novel experience has really improved in STEINS;GATE 0! Here are some new features that weren't available in previous STEINS;GATE titles: 1. You can now see sprites of the backs of characters! 2. You can now edit the volume of characters individually. I really felt the need for this sort of feature in spin-off games, I'm glad it made its way to this game. 3. Sprite, map/background and animation quality has significantly improved! 4. Characters now use smartphones with a built in messaging system similar to modern day popular messaging apps. My Review of STEINS;GATE 0 This game had me in tears from beginning to end! I cried so much! I cried more than I did in any other STEINS;GATE game! It's just so beautifully written and illustrated! Not a lot of series succeed at introducing lots of new characters in a further entry and gaining the admiration of its base, but STEINS;GATE 0 succeeded! I was so attached to all of the new characters - both good and bad! I loved everyone who was new! I absolutely loved all 5 good endings as well! Most importantly, I loved the true ending. It was the best way to end this depressive story. Well done! If anyone's curious about the order I received my endings. Here it is: 1. Leskinen 2. Mayuri (used guide) 3. Maho 4. Kurisu 5. Kagari (intentionally did it before True End) 6. True End If you ask me what the ideal ending order should be, it should be: 1. Maho 2. Kagari 3. Kurisu 4. Leskinen 5. Mayuri 6. True End I think that would be a more ideal way to experience this visual novel, because getting the True End last for me required me to skip so many chapters I had already read. If you need an ending guide, use these two, I had used them both: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1383621185, https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1381418631 As extra, feel free to read these notes I took: - I felt bad for Suzuha for not knowing what a party was since she came from wartime... - Mayuri's last message to Okabe in her ending route had me in tears! - Loved Mayuri's ending, I just loved how Okabe regained his confidence. I hope Mayuri slaps him really hard in the past and helps him open the STEINS;GATE! - If you get good endings you'll see how a hopeless. depressed and exhausted Okabe regains his motivation and life and becomes Hououin Kyouma again. Hearing him say who he was in front of attack helicopters and soldiers was the bravest and best thing ever! - This is kind of a cool and cute Easter egg I encountered: During the Christmas party, you can call Amadeus twice. She'll wish you a Merry Christmas! - I was sobbing so much during the "dream" with Kurisu... - I loved hearing Kaede play Turkish March as a Turk. - I like how app position changes with wallpaper - I found Kagari's stories quite interesting. Whoever came up with the story ideas for Kagari was very creative! - I loved all the RINE stickers! I wish they were all sold on the Steam Points Shop! Most importantly, at the end of this game, I realized how valuable Makise Kurisu is to us as a friend and scientist. Uncovering her knowledge is like uncovering Pandora's Box! The uncoverer cannot be malicious! Furthermore, I realized that escaping from your problems is not the answer to solving your issues. Work and work hard until you achieve your dreams! All Okabe needed in this story was some motivation and hope to get up and get back to work on reaching the STEINS;GATE! Aim to reach the "promised place"! Aim to open the STEINS;GATE! El. Psy. Kongroo. Overall Rating: 10/10
