A good game by all accounts, but slightly underwhelmed after seeing 'Overwhelmingly Positive' reviews, not overwhelmed in the slightest, a good time kill though.

Better than the first game in every aspect other than the writing, not that the writing is worse but there's a whole lot more of it and it isn't great. Unlike the first game's flirtation with the Metroidvania genre this one completely delivers on that promise. The ending leaves things open for another sequel but we'll see if that ever happens. It's been 7 years, although there was a 4 year gap between the first two and the franchise is still going so it's not impossible.

At first I didn't think SteamWorld Dig 2 was going to expand on the design of Dig 1, the first hour/half-hour felt like the same game. But boy howdy it opens up! The two big features that set Dig 2 apart are an expanded upgrade pool that lets you customize your abilities (including abilities new to this game), and the addition of MORE MINES! Instead of one big mine that changes biomes as you reach deeper, Dig 2 has multiple mines that branch out from each other. Each of these mines is its own biome, but also have unique mini-biomes within them that focus on different hazards. A very worthy sequel

The first SteamWorld Dig was a game I called a game. Well, this sequel is more of that, but in a better form. Let's explore the ups and downs of the game (+, +/-, -, ?): + The game looks great and the designs are beautiful. + The OST has been upgraded. You can hear this by just booting up the game. + The game is a bit longer than the first one. + Your equipment feels smoother than before. + Digging is fun and collecting stuff feels good... +/- ...but you constantly run out of inventory space, even with the best upgrades. +/- The story is all about saving the protagonist of the first game. Besides that, I guess some characters existed. +/- There's a nice amount of collectibles in the game, but actually getting some of them is painful. I ended up mostly ignoring them. - The constant need to travel from place to place gets old very quickly. 1. inventory gets full in 10 minutes. 2. Find a way to get to the main hub town. 3. Repeat forever. - The map seems huge at first, but in reality it's very small once you've done a little bit of digging. - Both of these games make me feel like I spent time, but nothing really sticks with me. This is especially true when it comes to dying in the game. I didn't care at all if I died which is sad. A game should make you feel like you're having fun and things should feel like they matter. - There's no need to play this again, unless you want to get all the achievements. ? Can this formula work? In my case, I'm not sure, but others may love this. SteamWorld Dig 2 is an upgraded version of the first one, but it still falls short for me personally. I have to mention I love Heist and I can't wait to play the sequel. This sequel, on the other hand, made me feel like I'm done digging. You may have more fun with this, especially if you love collectibles. 6,5/10.

Bigger, Better, and Deeper then the first! Seriously, when I spent the first 5 hours collecting and digging as far as I could, just to find out I was only a quarter the way through the game AND the ground, I was surprised. The environments and upgrades add more dynamic options of gameplay; and all, if not most, of the NPCs were fun to talk to. Also, plays great on Steam Deck, which is a plus for me.
