The game isn't a good game, but it is a good set of stories to experience in the Star Trek Universe. That alone makes it worth a play through. The problem is the story missions are really 98% of what there is to do that's any sort of entertaining. Improving your ship is so confusing especially in the late game as a method to sell items to pay the bills on the game. Really that makes the late game just a pay to win, but not so bad that it is not worth playing for those unwilling to pay. It's a half baked game that is worth it to fans, but not really good enough to stand without the existing IP. It's an MMORPG set in Star Wars that exists in 2025. That's a good enough review imo.

If you are a fan of Star Trek, then this game is worth trying. Make sure to set the resolution sliders to max, and it can look pretty good, even today. The missions are fun, and the community is helpful.

I may be biased because I'm such a Trekkie, but STO has consistently been one of the best MMOs out there for cooperative and solo play. The space combat system is amazing and fun, and the developers do a really good job of creating new content and keeping things running smoothly. I purchased a lifetime membership and have never regretted it.

Star Trek Online is a phenominal MMO that has kept a large part of the community going through the dark times of no star trek after enterprise was canceled. They've created long and winding stories that are truly trek in nature. It is very obvious to me the people in charge are true trek fans. Paramount has shown love back to STO in recent years by canonizing several high tier ship designs most significantly the Odyssey class, as the Enterprise-F. It's only got a few weaknesses, such as the ground combat being lackluster (as opposed to the EXCELLENT space combat, which is similar to the third person bridge commander combat) and being a bit too grindy and has P2W mechanics that are common in F2P MMOs.
