Definitely recommended this game. Even though the game is super in-depth; that does not justify the price for this game. You can have many hours of fun on this game but if you are not wanting to play an extreme amount then I could recommend 'Just act natural' which is a much simpler, less in-depth game for free. Overall good game but very expensive.

amazing game but the price tag is CRAZY considering the lack of content. personally, I highly recommend! it's super fun but just know that it's extremely overpriced and was abandoned very early unfortunately.

An excellent game, plagued by a prohibitive price tag and lack of content Spy Party is a fantastic 1vs1, competitive (or casual) espionage game where one player plays as a spy, whilst the other takes on the role of a sniper. To put it simply, the spy attempts to complete tasks whilst blending in with the other AI characters, while the sniper attempts to deduce who the spy is and murder them. The game has a ton of nuance and depth, it is meticulously crafted and well made. Where Spy Party falls short, however, is in a lack of content - in terms of maps, characters and objectives, in addition to fun gimmicks such as alternative game modes. Were this game to introduce a greater variety of maps (particularly some even larger maps) alongside a wider cast of potential characters, some additional objectives for spies and alternative game modes such as a form of 2v2 mode - as I believe solely relying upon a 1v1 format limits the scope of this game, the game would have a lot more to offer. I would like to see the creator half the game's price, if not quarter it, alongside introducing regular sales. At £20.99, the games price borders on delusional for a P2P, early access, 1v1 game with limited content. Furthermore, the game has not once gone on sale in all its time on steam. With this change, in addition to more regular content updates and perhaps some alternative game modes/gameplay changes, I think this game could legitimately break into the mainstream. At the end of the day, it is irrelevant how good the game is if no one purchases it due to its steep price.

With tons of hours played in game, I can easily say this is one of the best games I have ever played. Especially being interested in competitive gaming prior to playing this game and having some competitive experience, and seeing the level of strategy that can be used at high levels really interested me and led me to playing the game and becoming more experienced. Starting out as a newer player, it was fun, as there is a lot to learn which can be a good and a bad thing, the good would be is that there was some people who were very helpful and teach newer players the things they may have learned from their experience playing and that can lower the level of time it takes as a newer player to progress, because you have someone to teach you, however, it was not super easy to become really experienced in the game, as the game itself does involve a lot of time and effort to learn how the AI interact when doing certain things in the game like statues for a small example and how they act at the party in general. There is also not a ton of people who actively play the game, so even waiting for a game in general can be tough, then again waiting for someone who may have experience to play, or even want to play with some newer players and teach them. The good thing is that to combat a player who is struggling to find a game, there is a discord (discord.gg/spyparty), which has a looking for games section which people can post in when they are looking to play to avoid waiting possibly longer for someone to randomly join the lobby if they did not post in the discord, as the server can be quite slow at times. The discord is also full of helpful links, videos and etiquette lists to help newer players learn more about the game from people who previously did research regarding some of the AI's tendencies. As someone who put a ton of time and research into the game, it can take a lot of time, and I still have not learned everything about the game, which to me has made the game that much more fun, as there was always something to learn, and even when you progress from a lower level player, to mid, to top level, there is still something to learn, and I always enjoyed that. The game itself is very fun, and extremely strategic especially at the higher levels, it is fun to play as both the sniper and the spy. As someone who tried to teach a lot of newer players when they were looking for someone to teach them, I think if you do plan on buying this game and learning, it is best to just jump into the deep end and play with the action tests on as in the "standard" mode you can have access to all the missions, because when you start as a newer player you will probably be playing on the "recommended" setting, which can be OK at the start, but I think you learn the most playing with all of the missions as this recommended mode only allows a certain amount of missions per game. The game itself looks great to play and there is some great venues to play on. There is also dailies everyday which you can use to practice as the sniper especially if you have nobody to play with, and there is a levelling system in that also. The game has not received any updates since I started playing which was a year ago or so, at least no major ones, I do have the game a good few years, but I only started playing it more recently in like March 23 maybe. I do recall when I was newer at that time, it was mentioned in the discord by the developer that there would be updates in the future, and certain things being added into the game, but saying that, it seemed like when I was reading the replies at that time, it felt like the community as a whole, who were there longer than I was, were waiting for an update for a good few years already, and at their wits end, in a sense, and during the last year or so from my time in the discord and the game, there is still no update, and there is a lot of re-occurring jokes that have been made when an update is mentioned. The developer is active in the discord and seems like a lovely person, and says he is definitely still working on the game and updates in the future. It does seem like an update has taken it's time, but the developer is very honest in answering these questions in the discord as to why there has been delays and I don't want to mention them here because I would be guessing. My purpose in writing such a lengthy review is that I have put a lot of time and effort into the game, and also, if you play this game casually with a friend, that is fine, the reason I touch on the discord and the community is that there is a community in the discord who are there a long time and there is still a very active competitive community with tournaments being held very often, so if someone was planning on taking the game more seriously, then the discord would be a good place to start, as it has like I said, links, tutorials and there is competitive streams too, of the tournaments being held which are enjoyable. I will say this, the discord is great, and the developer is very active, and answers questions when people do ask, so props to you Checker. There is just one small issue I have with the discord I guess, and it's just the negativity sometimes, I understand the game has not been updated in a while, but sometimes in the discord, it seems like there can be just unnecessary jokes made as to why the game has not been updated in so long, and I understand people who buy and play the developers game may be entitled to chime in, I sometimes feel there is a lack of empathy overall in regards to the discord, I think adults should be more understanding and empathetic, sometimes there is cheap shots when there is no need in regards to updates. And even if there was a need to keep reminding the developer, repeating it every chance you get, is just tedious. A few times I have seen someone being called out for being late for a competitive game they were scheduled to play for example, which can be understandable, but there is almost a pile on from people who were not even the opponent of this person who did not play on time, almost like a group of friends giving their input that's not needed, I saw one time the person who was to play this opponent who did not show up, did not even complain(and had every right to), but others in the community took it upon themselves to talk badly of this person. There is times when some newer people join the discord and occasionally someone just talks very bluntly to that newer person which seems rude and unnecessary. With it being a competitive game there is always going to be the "ego" involved at times, and some of the best players have zero ego and are lovely to interact with, it's just the community can seem very cliquey(sorry). I just think grown adults should be able to be respectful and empathetic to everyone, but it's not always there, and there is a "gossip" vibe at times, which just seems like a high school vibe, which I just want no part in. The game itself I love, the developer is great, yes there has been delays, but Checker is a most stand up person from the times I have been in the discord over the past year, he is very respectful of every person and tries to avoid any negativity that is unnecessary but is always open to profitable debate. The community as a whole is great and they keep the competitive aspect of the game alive and kicking. That is pretty much the only cons I have of the community/discord aspect. Because there is a ton of great and helpful people in the discord, and the Pros far outweigh any negatives. I really enjoyed my time playing this game and time spent in the scene, but I do plan on moving on in regards to Spy Party, I wish the community and the developer nothing but the best.
