This game is really cute and very fun to play! It has a timed and untimed mode that you can switch between which is nice if you want a chill experience. Even on timed mode, I never felt like I was fighting the clock. Especially if you beat the game on chill mode and then go back and replay it on timed with all your power ups. I'm looking forward to the other match 3 games this studio has!

REVIEW #115 Spooky Bonus ---------- [NOTE: An addendum was added after receiving developer feedback which brought some context to the experience that I was had with this game while evaluating it. The addendum can be found at the bottom of this review.] *** ORIGINAL REVIEW*** The "match-3" casual game formula has been done and redone hundreds or maybe even thousands of times over. At this point in time, it's really difficult to innovate with this type of title since so many of them exist, some trying to do something different and some just copying from other games or sources. It seems easier (and maybe even wiser) to create a game that's a good mixture of elements that other match-3 titles have tried, and if those elements are balanced well during development, then a fun casual game may be the result. That introduction is the best way that I know of to describe Spooky Bonus. It's got elements that have been in match-3 titles before: blocks that need matches occurring over them multiple times, special items that can destroy blocks in varying ranges and shapes, super powers that charge up when matching certain items, in-game currency that can be used to purchase upgrades.... the list goes on. However, Spooky Bonus manages to piece all of these elements together into a really fun casual puzzle game. No part of the gameplay experience offered here feels unfair or annoying, and I actually found this title to be pretty addictive. Spooky Bonus's spooky-yet-family-friendly presentation is decent but not great However, all of the pieces and parts do work together well thematically. The graphics and visuals have that typical "casual game" aesthetic, and the sound effects, while serviceable overall, feature a couple that seem like they were lifted from other, unrelated titles. The music is good and features tracks that almost seem to have their own, individual vibe: one track sounds reminiscent of 1990s Castlevania games, while another almost sounds like it came from a family Halloween movie. The game also features timed and untimed modes, the latter probably being great for children to play and enjoy. However, for anyone that would like a fair challenge, I highly recommend timed mode. The only complaint that I have is that the game feels a bit short, but otherwise, I was very surprised with how much enjoyment I got out of Spooky Bonus. Some might balk at the $10 USD (current) price point, but I recommend at least picking this up on sale if casual puzzle games are your thing. ***ADDENDUM*** One thing that I neglected to account for in my original review was the time of this game's release, which brings a lot of context to the experience offered here. I had commented that many features in Spooky Bonus could be found in other games nowadays, but that didn't account for the fact that the game was released back in 2013, when such features in match-3 games were either new or much less common-place. Additionally, this release date rules out the possibility that I had heard some of this game's sound effects from other titles made by other developers, as the games that I had in mind were released much later.
