I really enjoyed this game. After finishing it with Spark, I wanted to put the game down but started the second run with Fark out of curiosity. I enjoyed that even more and ended up finishing it. The levels felt shorter (which is a good thing), fighting mechanics were tighter and not overblown with the powerups from the main game. Absolutely loved the music. It took me roughly 10 hours to finish both storylines. Pros: - Gameplay feels like good old 2D-Sonic most of the time but is it's own game - levels start ok and are getting better and better, even fantastic at times - graphics are wonderful and are fairly detailed - music is absolutely fantastic and memorable - powerups are a nice touch but hard to handle at times; you'll have your 2-3 favorites soon enough - Second run with Fark is even better then the first with Spark Cons: - levels are sometimes too long and dragging (up to the 10 min mark; better in New Game + with Spark) - power ups can make or break the game and are not always enjoyable - boss fights are mostly fun but are not very difficult and somewhat forgettable
FYI for anyone who has problems with (or those who reviewed about) the game crashing on pausing, it seems that it's related to software that can capture the screen (I.E. Discord, OBS, etc.). TURN THOSE OFF BEFORE YOU BOOT UP THE GAME. I don't know if it's safe to start them up after, but it's not unplayable. Another note for some people who said you can't turn off the double-tap to dash, you can. It is literally an option to toggle in the settings menu. It just happens to be on by default. Otherwise yeah IMO it's a pretty good game! Probably not on the quality level as something like Freedom Planet, but definitely worth the price. Plus it has a lot of charm between the cutscenes and dialogue. Some of the abilities could be a bit more in-depth, and in some levels it's difficult to find alternatives. Although in some ways I enjoy working around the jank that comes with it, but to each their own.
