Leaving a positive review not for the game itself, but for the recent fan project: Sonic Colors Project Re-Rainbow. Picked this up on sale just so I could play that, and boy it is everything this remaster should've been from Day 1. So yeah, if you can, definitely worth picking up now just for Re-Rainbow and then you've got yourself the definitive Sonic Colors experience.

It's good once you download a 21GB mod that fixes the entire game and makes it look like a proper remaster (project re-rainbow)

This remaster is an embarrassment and a sad reminder of how poorly Sonic has been treated in the last 5 years. A rushed and underfunded mess. The art style is ruined, the game play suffers from multiple new glitches, there's frequent stuttering and pauses during levels, the audio mix is a mess, there's massive loading times and all the cutscenes are AI upscaled videos instead of re-rendered. That being said, the fan made modding effort known as Project Re-Rainbow has slowly been fixing all this games problems and the team is doing an outstanding job. It's not yet finished, but the early access preview is great and makes this version of the game highly worth playing. The current state of the mod is already a massive upgrade and I highly recommend it to anyone who owns this game. Would I recommend Sonic Colours Ultimate? No. Would I recommend this game while it's on sale and with the community fixes and mods installed? Most definitely. Sonic Colours is one of the best modern Sonic games out there.

Had a good time playing it. Didn't feel as great as it did on the Wii but still fun. Definitely had fun with mods on too. PORT UNLEASHED TO PC!

Me personally, I do find this game to be SLIGHTLY overhated. Truthfully, yes. This game has many flaws. For starters (And what's most talked about) The bugs and glitches are here, and can be quite annoying, even after a few YEARS of this being released. There is still lag in the cosmetic menu (And multiple other areas at times) and a lot of the new additions in this game were incredible lazy. I will say, this is a very lazy port. And it was clearly rushed by the devs, without the proper time to replay it and fix the major issues being dealt here. Also, yes, the lighting is worse than the original. The bloom effect looks off, but I personally got used to the style it brought. Its not good, its not horrible looking either though. The cutscenes though, look like garbage. They just took the old cutscenes from Colors and upscaled them a bit, which was lazy as FRICK. They look off because of this. I legit skipped most of the cutscenes due to this issue. Also, the music is significantly worse than the original. Oh my GOSH, What did they do to this soundtrack? Some of these songs sound like they were composed by people that never composed songs before. The compositions can sound very disjointed, and downright awful sometimes. There are multiple other issues as well. The list goes on and on. With all of that being said, this is still Sonic Colors at its core. This game feels AMAZING at 60 fps, and the controls in this game were significantly enhanced to feel better than the original. Sonic is more floaty in this one, and his double jump is a MILLION times more accurate. The level design feels way better at 144fps than I thought it would. This plays beautifully (When it works right) and thats the big highlight for me. More people should acknowledge that about this game. This is worth the 12$ I paid for it. I beat it all in one sitting in 3 and a half hours, and had a good time with it. This was only because of the game play and level design that work WELL at 60 fps. And seeing Sonic Colors ported to modern hardware was a treat to behold, despite the major noticeable issues that downgrade this game by a LOT. Don't buy this at 40$. You could get MUCH better, at 40$, even is you like the original Sonic Colors. Get this on a deal. This is an alright experience, with HIGH highs for me, and some pretty LOW lows at times. This game has merit, despite its problems. That is all.
