This game was clearly inspired by the popular title "Don't Starve". It's a very solid crafting - survival game. I liked the story, it's deep and connected to the esoteric world. The developers clearly have read some books. I also liked the colourful graphics - the open-world map is divided into sections. Each section has it's unique monsters, ingredients to scavenge, challenged to overcome. The most important element of this game is crafting: there is a myriad of items to craft. All the items degrade and turn to ash with time so you continuously have to re-create them or repair them. But in order to do that you have to continuously hunt monsters and gather ingredients from the environment. A matter of fact is - this game is very challenging. It is based on tiers of difficulty and on a continuous progression to more powerful monsters and environment challenges. To survive that you will have to craft more powerful and more complex items: weapons, armor, a great number of food products that heal you and brings you boosts for combat and resistances. As said, the map is divided into sections - for example earth, ice, fire, poison, electricity, darkness...etc. Each section required it's specific weapons and armor to survive. But you will continuously need to go back to each sections for various ingredients, so you will have to carry an enormous amount of ingredients and chose what to do next and what is the best path to complete the next quest (quests are based on scavenging and crafting of course). I would always find my inventory too small for all the items. Luckily there are storage places. It's difficult to explain how complex this game is. I can attempt to convey how hectic this game is with how I often felt like while playing this game: "oh, next I have to craft item x, so I have to gather item a,b,c,d, but in order to craft item a I need product e,g,h,j. But in order to craft item g I need item n,m,o....etc....etc....Oh but I also need to go back to ice world and craft item p.. so I need this and this. So for ice world I need this resistances and weapons, but when I go to electricity world I need that. Oh, again I need to craft this, and again that". Combat is minimalistic and based on crafting, but also on skill, especially when you fight the monsters late game. But, it is all very satisfying and rewarding when you perceive that you are progressing the quests/story and becoming stronger, and of course, when you finish the game. So, this game is definitely not for everyone. It requires patience, planning and repetitive "work", which is to say grinding. However, when my experience with a game is so addictive and satisfying in the end, I always recommend such games. Fans of the crafting and survival genre will be delighted with Smoke and Sacrifice.

this reminds me of don't starve but not as much of a focus on survival mechanics. im actually a fan of the art style as it grew on me after a while of thinking early that it was rather boring and bland. everything ranges from decent to good, not really ever getting "bad" in any part of the game, but also not feeling "great" in any way either. some things are a little too simplistic and they could've benefited from being a little more fleshed out & complex, namely the combat jumps to mind as a good example of one such part of the game. lots of little QoL things also will add up and make the game drop a bit in favor as a result. for example i could see this being a 6 or 7 out of 10 but due to little things adding up, it's probably closer to a 5 or 6 out of 10 for me instead.

An interesting game that was enjoyable enough to play, even though a few parts were a little unclear to figure out. A lot of items can be found hidden in chests, so you don't even have to grind much to craft what you need. heck, this game might be completed with ONLY making the items that quests tell you to make (like the boots). You can tank damage well enough if you load up on food. Dodging felt a bit wonky, though. Quests could use a little clarification, and a little bit of visual design to guide players wouldn't hurt either. Definitely pick this game up if it ever goes on sale. Treat it like a nice snack. I finished it in 20 hours, though I can easily see a few hours shaved off of that time. 7/10 that with some minor tweaks is an easy 8/10.

It is a good game for price of 10 dollar. Some people complained that the combat is clunky and difficult to control. I do feel the same way, but it is not too clucky rendering the whole game unplayable. It's a 10 dollar game, so I don't think I can expect the dev to make it almost 3A quality. Besides, point and click adventure games' combat often feel clunky so is okay for me if they are not so bad rendering the game almost unplayable or annoying to play. Some people complained that the story is bland. I don't really mind that much and I think it is decent for a 10 dollar game. The development team is small and they may not have story writer for the game and not everyone is a story writer so this is just normal. Some people complained the game is tedious. Repetitive collecting and searching for materials for crafting can becoming boring and tiresome, I can agree. I guess this is not a game for everyone. For me, I like collecting and crafting stuffs so it's not a big problem for me, it also helps me kill some time. Overall, this game is good value for money spent. It has beautiful art, the game is functional, decent story, nice soundtracks and sound effects. Gathering materials and create stuffs are fun sometimes atleast for me. So I do recommend this game for everyone.
