A cool first person slasher rogue-like that I think relies too much on procedural levels. (I actually don't know if the levels are totally procedural but they feel procedural.) I like the simplicity of the items/progression system and it felt like there was a decent amount of gameplay variety between runs. The sprites are crispy and colorful, the combat feels sharp and tactical. There's a lot to like about this game. The levels are mostly okay but sometimes they can be excruciating to explore. The bizarre platforming segments do nothing but annoy me. With more handmade levels this game could be incredible, but even without them it's a pretty good time - it just depends how patient you are with being lost in fairly labyrinthine dungeon layouts. If you have fond memories of Dark Messiah or even just crawling through dungeons in Elder Scrolls then I would say it's worth checking out!

It's a bit rough figuring out how to play this game, or more specifically how to have fun playing this game. Conversely, looking up how to play sort of ruins the process of discovery which is super important in a game like this. This 'lack of instruction/tutorial' is pretty common for old-school RPG type games, but for this game I feel like it's my major pain point, there's no real way to learn, no breadcrumbs, or anything to tip you off about what the best course of action is. My initial impression of this game was that it had shallow combat and unnecessarily spongey enemies. After refunding, watching some videos about what someone could possibly like about this game, and re-buying the game, I had a ton of fun with the combat, which is actually pretty fast paced once you learn to not use light attacks and utilise your environment. Some low-spoiler suggestions I can give are: never use light attacks, mostly avoid damage with positioning, save and use invulnerability potions aggressively, make sure to use the environment to kill tanky enemies, and try to figure out what *permanent* upgrades you want from your bottles (look up recipes if you don't want to guess what ingredients you need). In the end this game is super fun and pretty decently re-playable, I only wish there was more content being released. Here's hoping for a Slasher's Keep 2.

This game is very unique. It's also relatively hard, and it's great for both of those reasons. It has a sweet spot mechanic between roguelike and roguelite; deaths are permanent, but with planning you can keep a little of what you earned to try, yet again, to escape Slasher's Keep. (Also, I love the art style)

I really wanted to like this game, but it's painful. It's like void bastards and dark souls had a baby. Can't give it a thumbs down, because for someone who wants to exist in this game world it's pretty great and stylishly executed. I guess I found out that enjoying the trailer didn't equate to enjoying the game. RIP Jimothy Elric

The depths of this game my my. I really like the progression system, though it can be punishing. I have barely scratched the depths after 20 hours...but that's probably just me... Big THUMBS!
