It's a must play for fans of Blade and Sorcery, Boneworks/Lab and Hellsplit Arena. This game pushes boundaries in 2024 like how Half Life Alyx did years ago. Genius game and "mostly positive" at 72% is a joke.

so ive played about 3/4 of this game (ill update when i finish it), i like it and heres what this game is GAME DESIGN this game is designed like a xbox 360 era action game, that means linear levels sprinkeled with pretty natural feeling combat arenas, this is broken up by regular twisting paths that lead to collectibles and extra loot for explorers. Pretty by the numbers but it works, the game is structured into big levels broken up into smaller levels, big levels take about an hour while smaller ones are 15- 30 minutes. The combat arenas feel somewhat natural since youre often times strolling through a abandoned fort and your enemies use and ambush you with sensible fortifications. The exploration paths are pretty neat and never feel too braindead, its engaging enough and actually offers unique set pieces (much appreciated). COMBAT Ive played on the hardest difficulty which is actually very difficult to the point of constantly dieing ( its still satisfing and fun), the combat system consits of a pretty thight stamina bar early on, the classic twd saints and sinner weapon feel ( everything feel heavy ), the game is designed around parrying for basic combat with most weapons, with a dodge every now and then. The game also gives you a rage mode in which your attack are stronger you can knock armor off easier and you have infinite stamina ( this mode has a very short cooldown). The enemies are soft but wear HARD armor, so it becomes a dance of getting your opponents to show their weak spots. Theres also a enviromental element that sadly becomes rarer later on, its quite similar to dark missiah of might and magic ( this is very high praise), however grappling enemies stays consitently throughout the game. the combat is actually better than i think most people will realize early on, the combat is very freeing, you can absolutley become a knight with sword and shield parrying and dodging your way through the biggest foes, you can go beserk with two axes (although the stamina system is quite punishing early on), you can throw enemies and take their limbs off in rage mode. The game is pretty viable as an archer too, but heres why i love it, its very viable to become an absolute SPEED DEMON ill let you descover that yourself. iam seeing a lot of people complainign about the parry system even saying it doesnt work, It doesnt work like b&s, just holding your weapon into an enemies strike isnt enough, they swing with force and you need to have at least some momentum behind your parries, otherwise theyll power through you. Parrying works and feels good, the issue for many people are probably the thight thight hit boxes, but it leads to a satisfying learning curve. to make it short its gud BOSSES the human bosses were surprisingly good, varied, no reskins, theyre unique, all drop cool loot, theyre all interesting to fight and challenging while not taking too long, theyre arenas are memorable, theyre not just bosses for bosses sake but have purpose in the lore, generally great. Especially the screaming girl in the great elevator, she was one of my favorite bossfights in ANY video game, she was readable fair, kept you on your toes, she put constant pressure on you, she was deadly but also died fast, plus he had a really cool unique mechanic and an amazing arena TITANS i have only fought two behemoths and the first one was quite clunky, you didnt really climb it nor did it feel challenging, it was hard to figure out what to do ( i do respect that, didnt feel handholdy). i honestly expected more, it felt like a gimmik boss from dark souls 1 not great, since its in all of the marketing, HOWEVER the second behemoth is a very good fight, its exactly what i wish the first fight was, it has specticale, its grand, interesting, you climb the titan, its very intuitive, engaging and FUN. GEAR theres plenty and most feel distinct, theres everything the heart desires Are you a chad male gamer boss and like big darksouls great swords its here. Are you a knight enjoyer theres a short sword (like a brazilian nut sword), long swords ( 2 european and 1 nordic style), we have a falchion, we have 2 wood shields ( lets be real its the most stylish anyways and its more dynamic than a steel one since it breaks apart). For the viking fantasy we have a 3 neat looking axes, a nordic short and longsword. for the thiefs and british people we have a dagger with aim assist, so its actually very viable to ninja your way through the game. for archers we have 2 bows. theres also a weird looking hammer for god knows who. theres a 3 katanas for people who dont shower. THE GRAPLING HOOK i dont want to just swoon over this for 500 words, in short its amazing, its useful its easy to use, its powerful, its fun, the rope physics are amazing although not quite on par with rdr2 ( but thats an unrealistic bar), the rope cutting mechanics are amazing as well. Its not just a point and youll be draged to a point in a straight line, its much more engaging and varied, i urge you to buy the game if youre a graplling hook enthusiast OPTIMIZATION its agressive, this game runs incredibly and theres a lot of development magic going on to make that possible. i dont want to knock it because i appreciate it, but ptimization always has downsites, you can sometimes see things pop in, many items are not interactive even when they look like they would be which is a shame. some textures are noticably lower rez in some probably more demanding places, light sources are also baked in except for torches. ihave a gti 3080 ti i saw someone else claim the game runs poorly with that card, this is not true i have my pc in eco mode and a cpu that doesnt take full advantage of my graphics card and this game runs great with fully maxed out settings ART this game looks like concept art at many points and thats amazing, the landscapes look vast and beautiful, the designs are all very inspired and unique, from armor to weapons, to the ingame scroll, its all just very pretty STORY im going to update this later since so far its just exposition, but the enviromental stroy telling is pretty on point. the story does seem very predictable early on, but actually becomes much more interesting, also noteworthy is that the us the player character wren asks good questions, takes clear sides and is genererally not dull. the cutscenes are marvelously done, its done like half life alyx where a person talks and you can explore a small area or room while it happens. The dialoge is breif as too not halt gameplay too much and bigger monologes are cleaverly split into diffrent rooms as to not restrict the player. Especially noteworthy is that they always put interactible items next to talking npcs so people with short attention spans can mess around with items and it works marvelously, i have nothing but respect for how well this is done NOTES bugs bugs bugs bugs, many bugs, sound bugs, i had a boss go invisible and he couldnt attack me ( ironically it was the boss that uses smoke bombs and hides, so i wasnt sure if he was just supposed to be invisible lol) , i had the first behemoth just not attack me for 3 minutes so i couldnt progress. I also had many crashes just out of the blue, eventhough the game ran great?? i hope this gets adressed, theres also an arena mode which was fun for an hour but theres only 1 sadly, it does say beta arena mode, so i assume theres more to come. another bug is that the ui options specifically for the inventory slots reset after every loading screen and you have to manually toggle them on and off again. Ive had a rot heart bug out the comments are always open, if you diagree or have somethign to add feel free to comment ITS GOOD BRO this is clearly a game that was made with love and care, its creative and takes many learned lessons from previous games to make this the best it can be, the only problem is a lot of bugs and the terrible first behemoth fight

Half an hour in and I can safely say the game lives up to the hype. The sense of scale is amazing. From the intro alone you get a glimpse of how small you are compared to the Behemoths. I haven't gotten far enough to rate Behemoth combat but for the smaller enemies, the fighting's visceral. You can see the blood oozing from their bodies and dripping on yours. There's supposedly a parry system but I haven't figured out how to make it work. I do find the sword swing a teeny bit sluggish but nothing that makes you feel disassociated from your real life movements. In fact, it may just be me used to Blade and Sorcery physics. Immersiveness is also top-notch. I found myself jumping at the sound of approaching enemies. All in all, a very, very good first impression. Assuming it keeps up its great showing, this is my VR GOTY. P.S. Playing on Quest 3 with Virtual Desktop and an RTX 3060
