If you're REALLY into the genre I'd say give it a shot, the story is neat but it gets tedious later in the game there's no warping from save point to save point, just a one way warp back to the hub area and it makes backtracking the majority of what your playtime is gonna be other than that the game is alright, didn't feel too difficult for the most part once you get used to the guard mechanic I dumped half my stats into guard and hardly had much of a struggle the last boss was still pretty tough the game has a nice ost for the calmer moments but it felt lacking when it came to the more intense parts like boss fights I can't name a single boss fight in this game that had memorable music for me the weapon hotkeys are also always active, I've had too many moments where I navigate the menus and unpause to find that I've swapped weapons again without noticing I did like the story though, Waltham is an interesting character

Entertaining and full of lore. I suggest this game to anyone who is bored of the mainstream metroidvanias. Personally I love how the game combines the souls-like leveling system with a more modern story (compared to something like Dark Souls or Elden Ring) as well as an intricate combat system. The game isn't hard but can present some challenges at the start. I highly recommend that you try it for yourself.

"Skautfold Usurper" is an absolutely brilliant game with an amazing story and lovely art. Important: playing it 2024, no problems nor glitches whatsoever. The servants standing by the Save points will tell you where to go next. For older/slower gamers (I'm 69 y.o.) for whom the game may be too tough at parts, please don't miss this gem in fustration ! So, some Cheat Engine hints below, but anyway you can play, enjoy this masterpiece ! Everything is Type Double: Guard (Stamina & shield) and Health, bullets and arrows, lives taken. Vitae left by killed foes and chests plus Yth stones (both counted on screen) will allow you to level up at save thrones. Recommend getting all Stats up to 29, no more for stability, I read in forum. This it the best way to get a lot of Guard (Stamina & shield) and Health and *keep* the new values. For Vitae put a crazy number such as 9,999,999 the necessary times. Yth stones are used less. You also can find the *current max* values for both and increase them beyond, but they will reset if you level up or quit the game to the default value to the level you have. You can find them again each time you play if you want. The guard and health left values addresses change in different areas, you should have to find them again, but obviously were useful to me freezing them for certain tough bosses. Bullets and arrows: counter on screen, you can input 99,999 each for all the game. Etc ! but enough. Have a good time !

"Skautfold: Usurper" is a pixelated metroidvania with slight RPG-elements and the second installment in the lovecraftian series by the (almost?) single dev Steve Gal. It is somewhat in the vein of the classic "Symphony of the Night" (much more so in the quite slow walking speed of the MC, which can be toggled off) and has an interesting Stamina/Health mechanic that - once you get the hang of it - makes encounters and the overall game much more forgiving (apart from some tight boss fights and challenge runs). There can be some problems in launching the game due to the engine (couldn't play it on my laptop, which is a common problem and a shame), the game is overall quite dark (literally) in most areas, the map is quite elusive, which can be a letdown for some, and there are some aspects that feel somewhat unpolished. Nevertheless - the atmosphere is dense, the writing and worldbuilding is very unique and well done, the weapon diversity is quite anime in their presentation, but cool and I really liked the final encounter (played it on No Death Run, where you could not save scum through the phases). The story can be convoluted and cryptic at times (it makes a little more sense when you play through the whole series), but it stands out as a creative and uncompromising title in the overabundance of media toggling the genre and the lore!
