One of the most creative and engaging games that I've played in years. I avoided Shipwrecked for a while, because on the surface it seemed like it was just going for the simple "haunted game" trope that's been done to death by now. In a way, it is, but what's magical here is the presentation. I can't say too much, because the fun of this game is entirely in the discovery - as others have said, it's best to go in as blind as possible, and to avoid any guides or spoilers unless you absolutely need them - but I can tell you that this game had me madly scribbling piles of handwritten notes and racking my brain in a way that took me back to childhood. Once it got its hooks in, I couldn't put this game down until I finished it. At its heart, you should know that Shipwrecked is a puzzle game as much as it is a horror game, and the puzzles are wildly challenging and complex. The store page suggests that solving it is almost intended as a group effort, and while I can see that appeal, you can absolutely get through the game solo without help if you're creative and determined enough. I managed to "solve" about 9/10ths of the game on my own, only resorting to a hint guide for two maddeningly difficult puzzles at the end, and making that much progress without assistance feels like one of my proudest achievements in gaming. I can't overstate how wonderful and satisfying the puzzles required for progression are, and how much enjoyment I got from conquering each one and being pulled in a layer deeper. A fair warning about the difficulty, though- you'll need a lot of outside-the-box thinking to make meaningful progress, and perhaps a high tolerance for frustration. Moving forward is nonlinear to the Nth degree. There's a few flaws that I can't get into without spoilers, but despite them Shipwrecked is an incredibly worthwhile experience that's clearly been crafted with immense amounts of love. Clever, unsettling, creative as hell, challenging, dynamic, artful, respectful of the player's intelligence, unique, gripping, infuriating, superbly crafted... I can't sing Shipwrecked's praises enough. If you're up for an incredibly tricky and unnerving horror puzzle game, I urge you to give it a shot. Highly, highly recommended.

Im really happy that I finally got to play this game properly since 1997. It seemed buggy and glitchy back then? As a kid, I didnt understand the weird random notes and videos that seemed nothing to do with the game so I dropped it. Luckily Cogware games fixed the original game and I was able to save more than my shipwrecked friends!

Played the original back in 1997, wasn't a big fan. Game didn't seem to work? And also there were these weird videos in it, I don't remember that well. Anyways, I was pissed because I spent my small amount of kid money for the year on it, but oh well. Glad to see some people cared enough to finish the original vision. Thank you Mark!

Genuinely one of the best indie games ever made (and I've played a LOT), as well as my new favorite horror game of all time. Nearly every element is amazing, but I don't want to get into specifics because it is 100% a game that should best be played with zero prior knowledge. (Think something like Outer Wilds if you've played that) That being said, it is absolutely not something for everyone - progressing through the game takes a lot of effort. You need to be the kind of person who doesn't mind taking a long time on puzzles as well as someone who is very observant in general. It is intended to be a collaborative effort, but to get the most out of a game like this I feel like you need to be able to walk the line between collaboration and spoilers. There is no shame in needing to look things up when you truly get stuck, as it can be very cryptic at times, but going through with a guide is going to rob you of a lot of the catharsis of making progress. I would also really recommend seeing if you can find a couple of friends or people with a similar knowledge level to you. Group brainstorming ideas and theories about the game is a remarkably satisfying experience. There is an absolutely unbelievable amount of love put into this game, and it will in all likelihood end up being my game of the year.

One of, if not, the best indie horror experiences from previous FNAF Fangame developer Squeaks D'Corgeh. I quite literally haven't felt dread in nearly ~8 years until I reached the "Plaza' level of SHIPWRECKED. The last time I truly felt dread was when I was eight years old while watching Don't Hug me I'm Scared. 7 years later, I ceased playing this game for 3 days due to its horror factor. Shipwrecked 64 takes the role of a currently unnamed player who discovers an outdated version of Cogware Games first Nintendo 64 licensed project, SHIPWRECKED 64. Canonically, two versions of the game exist. The 2023 release is the most recent build of SHIPWRECKED created with Unreal Engine and published by Shipwrecked Recovery Crew, a dedicated group of developers who dumped the animations, models, and assets from an old SHIPWRECKED 64 cartridge to reconstruct the game from scratch. The second, initial version of the game, the 1997 version, is the initial release of the game by Cogware Games taken off shelves only five days after it was launched in August 13th, 1997. In SHIPWRECKED 64, we play both these versions. This game, while seeming bright on the surface, slowly fades into a dark, twisted experience with a large shock-factor added to it. Known as "Controlled Decay", the game slowly corrupts itself as the player learns more and more about the game and its driven backstory. This game performs something extremely unique, and opens websites as clues to progressing through the game. I am aware that, in the future, these puzzles will eventually be entirely covered across Wiki articles, News outlets, Fan accounts, and more, but during my spoiler-free run, I was definitely pleased. The game visuals are fantastic, especially during cutscenes. In some cutscenes, employees for the overarching company "Cogware Games" are shown, and honestly these models are some of the most realistic ones I've ever seen. Some games have unrealistic features on their human models, while I can honestly picture each and every one of the characters in the game to be real people. It's so immersing, I love it. The games gameplay, especially during its intended ending, is really fun. I may warn you however, this game requires a TON of exploring, thinking, and more. Some puzzles are outright just difficult, especially while nearing the end of the game with the introduction of the "Dwellers", but trust me, it's all worth it when you reach the end. Speaking of the end, the canonical ending to SHIPWRECKED 64 is fantastic. It gives us context on the events leading to the outside events which happened in the "real universe" in-universe. Despite the game seemingly providing us the games main climax, more questions still stand. I really hope a sequel eventually releases. This was totally a game worth your time and money. ...With that being said, I heavily advise any person who is interested in the lore to play its LEGACY VERSION, as the lore is just too confused and jumbled without prior context. Don't worry, though! The story of the game is altered, with the main protagonist (as far as I know) being replaced in favor of US playing the game. Heck, even the lead developer of the game, Squeaks D'Corgeh, even canonically is known as the lead developer for the SHIPWRECKED RECOVERY CREW. Hah! 9.2/10, a near-perfect experience. I really wish there were more puzzles relating to the Dwellers, and maybe the game could've been a bit more clearer in some scenarios, especially during the ending segments of the game requiring you to press hidden buttons which can only be triggered from the other side of the wall, making it near impossible to actually figure out what you should do until you interact with the wall itself.
