Meant to review the game here a while ago. Shattered Pixel Dungeon is one of my favorite games in general, and I've been playing it since 2015, when it was still a small mobile game. The game has a lot of replayability with over 1 million possible level generations. The game has fun boss fights, quests, mobs that range from easy to the bane of my existence. Each hero is a fun play, offering a different style each time. Overall, this is a really good game, and is worth the money.

The golden standard for turn-based dungeon crawlers. Probably one of my top games of all time, which might seem off if you look at my Steam hours only. This game is free on the Google Play store (there aren't even any ads or a garbage energy system or anything, it is literally just the full game for free but on your phone) and it is probably the only game I first found on mobile that I will ever sing praise over. I've definitely got well over a thousand hours total on this game over all its past iterations to now. While not the creator of the formula (in fact, the original Pixel Dungeon started out as little more than a graphics upgrade of Rogue), SPD does a lot right. Tackle the floors as one of (currently) five different heroes that each bring something unique to the table and encourage different methods of approach. Enemies start out with nothing but a basic melee attack, but eventually you start having to deal with skeletons that explode on death, mages that hit hard from across the room, brutes that enrage before death, massive robots that lob toxin grenades, and so on. Best of all is that all of the advanced enemy types have weaknesses that smart players can take advantage of. Skeleton explosions wearing you down? Kill them with a javelin from afar to avoid it. Mages chunking you? Hide behind the door to the room you just entered and let them approach you instead. The variety of problems you encounter, be it enemies, traps, or guarded loot rooms, is only surpassed by the variety of tools you can find to creatively fight back with. In your first run you might find two unlabeled blue potions and attempt to drink one, only for it to explode in your face as a cloud of toxic gas. Lesson learned. A few floors later, you stumble across a monster house straight from the fiery depths of Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, complete with a pile of loot in the center but you haven't triggered it yet. If you're strong and have plenty of healing potions you could man up and take them all on, but since you know what blue potions do now you can chuck the second one into the middle of the room and block the door instead! The game is full of interactions like this, and the better you are at improvising solutions out of the random assortment of items and gear you've found, the farther you'll get. This game is a treat, and one that is continually being developed to add more features and content. Endlessly replayable with lots of challenges to complete, anyone who is a fan of dungeon crawlers should give this a shot.

Massive improvement over the original Pixel Dungeon, a classic pillar of the genre. Feels like your success is evenly based on game knowledge, luck, and actual intelligence/problem solving. Just so you know, everyone complaining about game ruining RNG just don't understand the game's fundamentals. On the base difficulty, you can win almost every game if you're smart enough. There is a bit of unnecessarily cryptic or unforgiving stuff, for which really I recommend just looking at the wiki to avoid wasting time. Guess and learn mechanics are mostly not ok in a game that's like 6+ hours long when you take your time. Otherwise this is just a damn good game with significant depth, many classes and skills, and tricky situations to tackle with about endless tools. Not easy, and you will probably struggle for a while which makes it more satisfying. Huge replay value as there are 5 classes which all have two subclasses, and choice of a spell from 3 per class. Great game with much more depth than you'd expect, and gets improved regularly via balance patches/updates. I was not expecting this to be so much better than Pixel Dungeon.
