Definitely my favorite of the series. The platforming feels great, and the transformations are unique and interesting.

Good, but not the highlight of the series. Does suffer from some issues. It seems to want to return to the series “walk to the right” roots while also have the exploration and backtracking from the previous title. Which would be okay if they included a map for tracking stuff you can't get at yet. It's very common to unlock a transformation from level C, go back to level A to unlock a new ability for a different transformation, then use that ability in level B for a plot critical item. There are also too many transformations, and most of them only have one purpose. Often to the point where you only need them for a single challenge and then never use them again. You'll often find yourself constantly transforming back and forth for some challenges, which gets tedious quickly. Most notably with having two different ones for underwater, and having to surface to switch between them. The game also lacks a central villain for most of the game. You're just beating every bad guy from all the previous games in their own self-contained stories, while also helping Uncle Mimic finish a machine in the background. It would have been nice to have all these adventures be connected in a more solid way. Overall I did enjoy it. But I still feel like Pirate's Curse was better. And biased on some reviews I've read Seven Sirens does fix a lot of these issues.

Reviewing this after first playthrough on main mode. This is a significant visual upgrade over previous entries in the series now in vector style from pixel art. They added some minor voice acting on some dialog. I'm not sure if it is good or bad but this game seems way easier in comparison to Pirate's Curse which I admit gave up the last stage cause the platforming was way too hard. I'm not sure if having the game. I remember in Risky's Revenge which iirc has no difficulty option, I got myself killed multiple times of the first boss (I think) the Squid Baron. I got passed all bosses with no issues which makes me wonder if this should be played hard mode from start. The game has other arcade style modes with Shantae of different outfit. There's a mode all for Shantae's friends and one for Risky Boots. However, as mentioned I touch the main game so I cannot give other details. I might revisit this game for the other modes if the platforming itch comes. If you're into platforming, metroidvania and such; the Shantae series is worth checking out.

Pretty good game, solid gameplay, it has its problems here and there, but nothing too obvious, the art change may not be everyone cup of tea, but in the end the game is true to the Shantae's IP.
