This game has helped me learn something. Besides being a charming, entertaining, and funny game, it also rewards you for looking just that little bit closer. Just walking up to a random trash can, then it suddenly gives you 3 xp and a can of tuna or keep on bugging the narrator and the characters makes it all the more fun to play...and after playing this, I found myself slowing down. Enjoying things more. Both in video games, and outside of it. I know this probably doesn't apply to everyone, but I thought I'd just share why I like the game (and West of Loathing) so much. (I've still a lot more to find out in this game) TL:DR Fun(ny), charming, entertaining game. Made me enjoy small things more and slow down

I think this is the most funny game of all time. It doesn’t necessarily include the funniest thing in a video game, but it has the largest amount of funny moments in any game. Except for the games with really high replayability, that could potentially continue to be funny for thousands of hours, which isn’t even really a fair comparison. Out of all the finite single player games, this game has the most funny moments. But even this statement doesn’t accurately represent the funniness present in this game, the number of funny moments is only half of it, the average magnitude of each funny moment is great too. This game has the largest average magnitude funniness of all video games, in addition to having the largest funnies per minute of any video game. Except, even this statement, is an inaccurate portrayal. There are games with very infrequent but incredibly funny moments that have an average funniness higher than the jokes present in West of Loathing, and there are games that sacrifice the average funniness of its funny moments for the sake of having many more slightly funny moments. What Shadows over Loathing does that is special is balance out these two factors. Imagining a graph where one axis is funny frequency and one axis is funny magnitude, Shadows over Loathing’s coordinates on this graph functioning as the vertex on a rectangle which also had a vertex at 0,0 would have the largest area of any game.

Pros: +Relentlessly joke-filled. Even if not every joke is laugh-out-loud-funny, some are, and there's still something to be said for a consistently funny tone. +Charming art style and presentation, which is often used and subverted to great effect +Easy on the computer. It starts up and loads games instantly, instant loading times, and runs smoothly. I can't stress enough how much this makes the game enjoyable to jump into and play. +Some encounters / scenarios really wowed me with the cleverness of their design. +Heavily rewards approaching the game thoughtfully. There are lots of interactions that the devs accounted for. Cons: -If you're a completionist like me, some things can be frustrating; such as how easy it is to miss large chunks of content because of a choice that seemed inconsequential. Note, this could also be considered a positive of the game! I admit, it does have a certain charm to it, despite the frustration it can cause. -Can be a little grindy. ============== Final Thoughts: While the actual roleplaying elements aren't that high, there are tons of situations which really require you to think about the characters in it, and their relationships with one another. You can brute-force the entire game, but there are lots of times when you are rewarded for carefully thinking things through, which is immensely satisfying. Yet, it's still got a consistently lighthearted tone that makes playing it so fun. The ease with which the game starts up, and how you can load your game immediately, makes it a joy pick up and put down whenever you want. I definitely recommend it if you are looking for a game that surprisingly rewards a thoughtful approach to its setting, while subverting and parodying various lovecraftian tropes, and other horror tropes as well.

Hell yeah. Took a little longer for me to warm on it compared to West of Loathing but this game rules just as much.
