IF you want a game with extremely funny moments like manipulating monsters into your thrown firecracker, running though security sensor right when you start a run or mirror-warping into 3 monster before you hit the ground during a high fall. This game has all above and more. It's a fun game. Speedrunners should try out this game more.

Typical experience is : You arrive in a new level. You walk around, search for items and look for objectives while listening to sounds. As you progress into the level, you recognize some ennemies and identify new threats you haven't encountered before. You start to learn and experiment with the new threats. Progressing carefully, you're always on the edge because you can't simply respawn; death has a meaning (restarting the entire level once you're out of lives) so you cannot afford to get careless. If you perish, all is not lost because you've learned valuable information and you can choose some temporary buffs for your next attempt. Overall, the game is excellent. You can replay the same levels in different difficulties without getting bored chasing a higher score, trying a different "build" or just enjoying the experience. There is a lot to do and it doesn't get old. I'll probably try to 100% the game if achievements are reasonnables. You cannot rebind the movement keys so you'll have to change your keyboard to qwerty if needed. In 1.07+ I haven't encountered any bugs and the performances are good (Ryzen 7 5800, rtx3070 laptop)

EDIT: March 30, 2024 - they appear to have patched the issue I had. I'm going to change my vote from not recommend to recommend as I did really enjoy the game up until it broke when I was playing it. I'll update the review some more after I check out the new update. I really enjoyed the first one and was enjoying this one until it broke completely. So I spent about 20 or 30 minutes playing the first level and gathering up all the magatama I needed to escape. After you find them all, you're meant to use the compass (if you've found it at that point). I already had the compass but I had forgotten the key to use it. So I opened the menu to check which key I needed to use. After finding the button, I attempted to exit the menu but this caused the menu to remain up. But my character was dropped back in the game - I could tell by the audio. I could hear her walking around and stuff when I hit buttons but all I could see was the button menu and nothing I did would let me exit this menu. A short time later, something attacked me and I could hear it hitting me over and over and over again but I had no control - I was not able to exit the menu at all. And even when my character finally died (total BS, not my fault the game is broken) - the menu STILL remained up. It still wouldn't let me go back to the main menu or the coffee house. I had to close the game completely. I waited 5 years for this game after the first one came out and I have to tell you - this really irritates me that it launched this broken. These days I don't tend to do negative reviews (I think I've done 1 in the last 4 years other than this one) but until this is fixed I had to warn early purchasers because it's not right to ask people to sink hours into a game and then lose all your progress because the devs can't get menus to work right. I'll change it to positive if they fix it because I was enjoying it until it broke completely.

So based on the first couple of hours playing... The game I can assure you this is worth getting. Compared to Shadow Corridor 1 it has: 1. Better Plot, Won't spoil anything but it is much more concrete than the last game while building upon some smaller aspects within the Shadow Corridor universe. It provides a lot more context and lore when compared to the last game and requires (I know some people care about this) a lot less reading notes when compared to the first game. 2. Better Graphics, This is a given to be honest considering the timing of this release compared to the last. 3. Better Gameplay, My main gripe with the last game was the fact challenger difficulty on some levels would have numerous of the same apparitions and they could easily gang up on you regardless of how careful you are. In this game challenger difficulty feels more relaxed, less "apparition spamming" and most of all doesn't actually require you to play the harder difficulties to get the whole story unlike the last game. Also the good thing about the gameplay is it is a mix of being more experienced over time while playing and getting better cards while merely playing levels which helps the player throughout the game. This is done via the souls and magatama currencies within the game. And if you die you consume candles to keep you alive to finish the level (assuming you have candles left within the level). Another side note, you can use the skeletons as points of reference when traversing the corridors which should help those with navigation issues. Some points to improve on.. Thus far I've only encountered three problems with the game: 1. Dying (ironic right?), When you die an apparition can spawn pretty much on top of you so stay vigilant when and if you do die in a level since there's almost no grace period. 2. Visual bugs, Sometimes when an action is performed at an inconvenient time (i.e pausing the game) lighting or visual effects will take place when they shouldn't be. 3. The Compass Item, The compass seems to be having functionality issues once collected as I couldn't even use it in the first level. Other than that haven't found anything game breaking. Highly recommend.
