The translation wasn't great, but it wasn't terrible either. There were parts that were poorly done, but overall, it was readable. I'm not a fan of Kaname's route, mainly because it feels forced or overwhelming. The romance is there in the end, but it all felt like a forced marriage and considering her family status I would understand but I can't really feel their love for each other. Eve and Tori's routes, on the other hand, are the complete opposite. The emotions are there, and you can feel their love for the MC. They are definitely wife material. I'm also not a fan of Kukuru's route. It was decent-not as bad as Kaname's but it felt bland to me. I am, however, happy that Ryuuji and Five got their own part of the story and endings. I always thought they would remain side characters with no progression, other than talking to the MC and other characters (for five) and being the antagonist during the early story (for Ryuuji) , leaving them undeveloped by the end. It would've been great or amazing even if Hana, Sora, Nana or even Shiori had gotten their own side-story scenes. I'm quite sad that this wasn't included. I was honestly hoping while I was doing Kaname's route that Hana and Sora will at least join in the "Action" but there was none. Overall: 7/10

As everyone pointed it out by now, the translation is on the weak side. It feels like 3 people made it, sometimes it feels like it was done by machine, sometimes it feels like it was done by someone who is not very good at English but tried their best and sometimes it is just nearly perfectly ok, done by the one person who was really up for the task when it comes to pure skill. It does not appear an editor was involved to QC either because there are too many typesetting errors which would have been likely caught. Behind all that, there is a genuinely good visual novel hiding. I just wish they let the translation bake for at least another 3-6 months. Who knows, maybe it will be improved upon over time. Length wise it is fairly long despite only having 4 routes. (took me 30+ hours) The story while also taking place in a school like a thousand other visual novels, tries to innovate the premise a bit which I think worked really well here. The waifus are great and apart from one route I really enjoyed most of them. There are some pretty interesting twists thrown in as well. Voice acting is superb and art is also great, the amount of different facial expressions are pretty insane actually, those are all hand drawn, there is no modern emote system present from what I observed. Intro song rocks and soundtrack overall is decent. A fairly big technical downside is resolution, it is only 720p but at least super resolution was implemented so I had no problem enjoying it on my 1440p screen. (just do not oversharpen it as it gets really obvious and things start to look a bit weird) Hoping Five and the Twins get a fandisc one day, there is quite a good amount of potential left. As always, get the free patch for the full experience. If you can get over the weak translation I recommend it.

I just finished playing through the common route. So far, the games story has a very good narrative and the characters' characterization has been great. There have been some issues with the english translation that need some editing, but that's nothing that can't be fixed with a patch. Translations are still better than MTL. Great job!

General Information Select Oblige is a visual novel, developed by Madosoft, and published by HIKARI Field. What is interesting is that this visual novel was translated in house by the development team, for better or for worse (weā€™ll touch on this later. Select Oblige has you in the starring role of Nagi, an orphan from the Sugura District of this worldā€™s Japan, essentially the slums of the whole nation. Nagi is given an opportunity to be student at Oden Academy, thanks to the random lottery that is the Oneā€™s Gift. (Before I continue this review further, I cannot stress enough that you get the adult patch for this game. There are whole sections of the story you will miss without it, including enough plot points that will make you think you blacked out, because you will be confused as to where you are in the story) The Review Character Design-A Madosoft goes for the typical visual novel style in this game, reminiscent to many other games that HIKARIFIELD has published (Aokana, Senren Banka, etc..) While nothing new and original, the images and characters are still pleasant to look at. Music-B+ While the original ost of this game is ok, its not really memorable with the exception of the opening done by Faylan. That opening is quite a bop. Translation/Writing-D Unfortunately the weakest aspect of this visual novel is its translation/writing. Translating a foreign language into English can be quite daunting, and while I do applaud the attempts that were made, this game is just further evidence that machine translation still has a ways to go. The grammatical errors are numerous, translations are stiff and awkward, and sometimes the game forgets which character is talking, resulting in the wrong pronouns. So then why the Blue thumbs up? Despite the rough translation, I still enjoyed the four routes the game provided. The next section will cover my opinions on what I thought of the four routes (your opinions may differ) Kaname Isshiki- the president of the student council and more than likely the cannon ending for the game. Her route provided further insight into Nagiā€™s backstory, but the lack of character interaction between the two leading up to her route, made it feel a little pushed (My third favorite route) Eve Tateshina- While not the cannon route most likely, Eveā€™s gradual romance with Nagi feels the most organic while the antagonistic on her route also feels the most realistic (Natural Talent vs. Hard work) While I feel like her story had an abrupt ending (it was still my favorite) Kukuru Yato- The Scientist emotionless character of the group. You will absolutely be confused as poo on this route without the patch. Kukuruā€™s route deals with the question of ethics in how far would you go to improve ai? (equally the weakest of the three routes) Tori- the sister route of the game (though not blood related) While is was worried that this would be the cringiest of the routes, to call it a character specific route is a bit of a misnomer, as it actually deals with the fallout of a certain minor character in the prologue of the visual novel. (My second favorite route) Overall, I rate Select Oblige as a 6.5/10. As a visual Novel it doesnā€™t do anything outstanding, its weaker than most things HIKARIFIELD publishes, but lets be real, only you can determine if this game is right for you.

Finished the Prologue / Before Opening Just a decent game so far. In my opinion, The Translation is actually quite decent although has it's own issue but not to the point of being unreadable. (Since it's being done by a primary Chinese publisher) Overall Okay-Priced for around 40h hours of read (VNDB), but I would recommend buying on a sale (Especially if you're concerning about the translation quality). As for 'Additional Contents' or 'Patches', I recommend check a VNDB page for this game. My only complain for the game is that Houjou Twin should have their own route. Thank you.
