Usually, people tend to put either episode 2 or 3 in the number 1 spot when it comes to the Saints Row series. Personally, I prefer The Third but whichever episode you played most one thing is for sure: it all started with Saints Row 2 on PC. The first part has always been Xbox exclusive. I wish this one got a Remastered version! There is a compilation of its cutscenes on YouTube and the videos still look great. Why play it now? I had a quick glance at the latest (and last) part and it was too bright for me. Not sure why they ditched a lot of things and decided to take the reboot route. What about Gat out of Hell ? Meh... it was always a bit of a mystery for me so I never played it. For me Saints Row is part 3 and 4 (yes, the idea of a Matrix-like version fascinated me). Now, this one picks up the story where it was left off. The gang is still in Stilwater - Steelport was only introduced later as the main setting. I can imagine people fell in love with part 2 immediately: it already had realistic physics (the graphics were not as next-gen as in GTA IV that was released in the same year but this was definitely ahead San Andreas in terms of technology). We saw full character customisation for the first time and picking different gender and race meant different voice actors (altogether 6 of them if I'm not mistaken). If you started with The Third then you never got mad at Volition for getting rid of Gat who appears to be the first person you recruit as you get ouf of prison. Then you continue with Shaundi and Pierce later on. One hour in you already have lots of missions and activities you can choose from and 2 cribs. While Part 2 is still not as serious as any GTA (essentially a trademark of the series) it isn't as crazy as The Third became later on. If you don't mind the dated graphics and that the FPS value varies between 40 and 60 on the highest settings (for no apparent reason) then pick this one up. Ditch the reboot!

Not the greatest port... but its fixed just look up GOTR.... This game is the BEST SR ever made and they should have extended the story from here rather than erasing the progression.. Idol Ninja (community manager I think and a SR modder before hand) fixed the game and posted it online. and pushed to get this game patched with a new appID and it would have been free to current owners. He passed away a week or so before the Reveal of the NEW SR... actually fucking dispicable no matter where you cut it. People are SPED but its good all you need it s GOTR custom patcher made by Idol Ninja ( R.I.P ) He was gonna be responsible to putting this big patch as a actual update to the game if he didn't get ill and pass over... THIS GAME NOT BEING PATCHED AS PROMISED IS A CONSTANT REMINDER OF VOLITIONS NEGLIGENCE OF THE REAL FANDOM AND WHAT WE ALWAYS WANTED OUT OF THIS FORGOTTEN MISERABLE FRANCHISE.

After the flippy video, and the behind the scenes of whatever the **** is happening between saints row's parent company(s). I hope the fan base can come together to demand that Official patch, which Idolninja would've wanted to get out there so this game can goddamn live officially again, and not on the backbone of hard workers (not the company) that actually love the community and this franchise. In its current state, the game requires the GOTR, Gentlemen Of The Row, mod to function pretty flawlessly. It's a small little detour, but this game deserves that tinsy bit of effort because of its official neglect. Saint's Row 2 is the last and best actual entry in the series, this game is amazing, and deserves a proper port. Even though the series has quite literally been sabotaged, and I doubt can recover, I hope this game gets the patch it deserves. By this point in time, the story might be cliche and done to death, but it still keeps some moments, and has actual comedic beats unlike the newer entries. If I could boot up this game, co op with friends and pimp slap them into oblivion, or lead them into a false sense of security with moongravity and invincibility and drive face first into a fucking petrol station, I would do so gladly.

The greatest sandbox crime game ever created. We will never get a game this good again. Protip: Play the GOG version with the GOTR patch. It fixes all the crashing and most of the glitches.
