ADDICTIVE! The sailing experience in this game is better than ATLAS, NAVAL ACTION, SKULL & BONES, PIRATES OF THE BURNING SEA, UNCHARTERED WATERS...I've played all these games. Sailwind makes you really sail your ship. You not only control your rigging, wheel, and rudder but you can also modify it in the shipyard to your liking. Change your masts, sails, mizzen, bowsprit, forestay...etc. Also, this game requires navigation skills and duly gives you access to all the navigation tools necessary. You will make LONG sea journeys in this game and encounter the gambit of weather conditions. Navigation tools you can buy are the basic standard compass, sun compass, quadrant, chronometer, and chronocompass. The challenge of learning how to properly navigate, manipulate all sails and rigging, and be a successful maritime merchant all at once...it can definitely hook you. Oh, there's fishing and cooking as well. Another addictive aspect of this game is the grind. I'm a gamer so I enjoy a nice grind, and Sailwind gives it to you. The navigation tools, ship upgrades, and finally the purchase of a much larger and better ship...yeah, you will grind the money for all these things. If you've played any of the games aforementioned you'll definitely want to give this one a go. The day when this game becomes an mmo people won't go outside anymore. I hope the upcoming AHOY game has similar sailing features as SAILWIND. ⚓⛵

This is the most relaxing game I own. Are you interested in navigation and sailing? Do you want to be a maritime merchant? Do you want to get lost during your ocean passage never to see your family or land again? This is the game for you.

For some reason it feels really good to sail around, making massive profits from oversea trades, decorating your ship... It just feels kinda lonely. You basically never see other ships, so it's just you sailing around alone. Still, the game is great to play while watching something on your other monitor. Also the ship designs are really well done and the sailing mechanics feel really well thought out. Same with navigation.

This is a game I expected to play for ~20 hours to scratch my itch for a relaxing game and it has been all I've played for the last 120+ hours. A few things that really drew me in: A very physical inventory system, you want to trade something? Cool, go ahead, hope you can pack it in the damn boat though! Needing to actually tetris your trades onto your boat is super satisfying, even hen you can barely see from how deep you've packed in. There is NO magic ingame map, and essentially no map markers. You want to know where your are? Pay atention in the ingame map, and use the ingame tools. This is fine in archipelagos, but want to take a journey across the ocean? Hope you're ready to watch the stars at night and take readings to have even the vaguest idea where to go. Game world is attractive, sailing is challenging enough to learn a little about actual sailing without actually needing anything other than the in game manual to play. This is a very slow paced game, but very satisfying, I've thought of it like a wet Death Stranding, where your enemy is the game world and a successful journey is you defeating it. I think you need to be in the mood for this kind of game, but the upshot is this is a great game to have on in the background as you do something in parallel, I have used it to make doing some coding challenges, learning or working into a more enjoyable experience. You already know if you have the itch for this game, might as well pick it up, nothing else is gonna scratch it.

Do I recommend Sailwind? Well, no, but also yes! "No" because it is still quite early in development, lots of quirks, some not-so-well-thought-out features - such as islands slightly bigger than my boat hiding beneath the stormy ocean while I'm looking for them, and some minor things here and there. Mostly "no", though, because Sailwind is a really difficult game to objectively recommend to people I don't know at all. This isn't Sea of Thieves. This isn't World of Warships. This isn't ...well, a lot of titles. But as to the "yes", I am writing this as I watch Gold Rock City vanish on the horizon while I'm sailing at 112 degrees in my Sanbuq on my first ever long distance adventure towards Fire Fish Town - and I am excited as hell! Many times have I cursed this game while trying to locate Al'Ankh Academy or Albacore Town, but the utter glee I feel now while fishing and watching Gold Rock City... I don't think I've ever felt this form of excitement in a game before - and certainly not in Starfield. So, as for the recommendation; it boils down to your subjective idea of a good adventure. If it requires someone shooting at you or trying to kill you - well, apart from the ocean - then this isn't it. What I strongly do recommend, though, is to have a look at YouTube, as there are some very dedicated Sailwind-players there, and that will give you a significantly better understanding of what this game is and isn't. But lastly, what I can say, I do freaking love it.
