uh its very good and its simple to use. there's an ingame character creator but its sort of limited? but its a good alternative if you're bad at spriting like me lol ermmmmmmm yah 1458 hours oh my gawd

This game is so much fun. It's a good game builder without any code! I sunk many, many hours into this "game". I would recommend for anyone who wants to build something goofy or just build a full RPG game. Wait a little though for this to go on sale.

This engine is an excellent choice for aspiring game developers, especially if you're interested in creating a JRPG. You can start bringing your ideas to life almost immediately after getting started. Simply watch a brief series of tutorial videos, and you'll be ready to go. While you will need to understand its limitations and sometimes deal with unintuitive workarounds that would be simpler with a more conventional engine, it’s still possible to create something large, unique, and complex - many developers have made impressive games with it over the years. For top-down JRPGs, this engine is a solid all-in-one package. It includes a character creator, tilemaps, effects, and sounds, providing everything you need to start. Additionally, there are plenty of external plugins and assets, both free and paid, that you can easily integrate into your project. Using this engine has been a fun experience, and it has deepened my appreciation for games made with it. As for which version to choose, this one is a great option. While RPG Maker MZ has some improvements, you can achieve everything it offers with plugins or workarounds in this version, and it's priced much more affordably. So definitely do your research, but this version will not disappoint.

If you've never used RPG Maker or a game dev engine at all, I recommend taking a look at previous versions of RPG Maker you can buy for twenty bucks and see if you like the way it works. They're all similar but with more features as the versions progress. If you like an older, previous version, you'll love this. As a frugal gamer with game dev dreams I understand that 80 bucks is a huge buy-in but it's worth it if you're dedicated. RPG Maker MV does exactly what it says you can- you can make an RPG and it's simple enough a child could do it. If you want to do anything more complicated than anything you'd find in Final Fantasy 1+2, you'll need plug-ins which the system supports and the community produces. You'll find many plugins both free and paid widely available and there are entire suites of plugins available that completely change the game into entirely different genres. I will say the community is prickly. A lot of times novices or people who don't know how to code Javascript will come to the community and ask for help. And usually when you ask how to do something, if you're clear and polite enough, someone will come in, call you moron, and then code exactly what you asked for. If you buy this game, I recommend with all of my heart purchasing the entire collection of Yanfly Engine Plugins to expand the versatility of this engine.

I've spent 10 years making my own game in this engine and overall it has been a great experience in learning the game design process. If you are interested in learning all aspects of game design and want to make an RPG or JRPG, this is the engine for you! My favorite thing about RPG Maker MV is that it uses JavaScript as the program language so you can fairly easily port it to other systems and you can learn JavaScript in the process, although it's not absolutely required. MV is very well supported by the community with hundreds and hundreds of plugins that can help you customize your game with different mechanics. There are also lots of art assets out there both paid and free that can help you flesh out the look of your game. Download the trial and give it a try, but you will probably only scratch the surface of what you can learn with this engine so definitely also check out the forum at https://forums.rpgmakerweb.com/ and get it on sale for cheap when you can.
