Short: If you want a game that gives you the freedom to build how you want to build with the roman style and build your own army to protect your home from barbarians, dragons or hydras then this game is for you. It is simple to pick up and quickly start having a good time. Long: This is the exact game I have been looking for. I love playing Age of Empires, mainly due to the historical nature of the game but always wished the games were long-term so it felt worth it to build up your walls and defenses. This game does just that, you are able to build up your settlement and army and get yourself ready to fight against human enemies but also mythological creatures which I think is awesome. Being able to have the option to disable mythological creatures is a huge plus too. With the core gameplay I have no issues, I think the worker assignment system is innovative - I have not played a game with a system like this before but it was extremely easy to pick up and I like the things you can do with it such as if you run out of wood and you mark a bunch of trees to be chopped down then you move your woodcutters to the top of the job priority and remove limits and watch all your citizens move like ants and fill your wood instantly. With this game being early access and developed by one person it is a very good start. Some things I hope to see would be more options for map editing, I think fully custom maps that let you decide where things are rather than only having seed-based options would be an awesome addition. Next please let us place individual trees to fill in areas that can't fit buildings! One final thing I think would be a nice QoL change would be allowing roads to be placed over trees and have the workers automatically destroy them (like the walls and gates do already) - it becomes a bit of a pain having to clear a path of trees to draw a road a distance away. I see modding is in the roadmap and if that's done with Steam Workshop the possibilities of this game will be endless! Thank you for this amazing game and I am looking forward to future updates. I will update this review when I have more playtime and there are more updates!

Very promising, one gripe - "dont place houses near quarries as the sound is annoying" Yes, the sound is extremely annoying, so why are you making me listen to it constantly? Please, unless you are zoomed in fairly close to a quarry, please turn that fcking noise off :) Ok so fuller review, built a big city, now the game is just waiting for each wave of blobs to crash into my walls. Love the idea of the game, and very impressive for one dev, but its missing something. I dont feel there is anything left for me to do.

"Rome wasn’t built in a day… but here you build it and save it in the same one!" Roman Triumph: Survival City Builder is one of those games you launch for ā€œjust ten minutesā€ and suddenly it’s 2AM, your citizens are starving, the Hudra is smashing your granaries, and you’ve completely forgotten to eat dinner yourself. On a serious note, this game has depth. It’s not your average city builder—it blends strategy, survival, and angry gods who will absolutely curse your city if you don’t offer them something nice. The Roman setting is beautifully captured, and the pressure to keep your people alive while fending off both barbarians and mythological monsters keeps the gameplay fresh and engaging. Resource management actually matters here. You can’t just slap down roads and hope for the best. Each playthrough has a randomized layout, so replayability is definitely a strong point. Now sure, there are a few rough edges—but this is Early Access, and you can tell the dev truly cares. If they keep this up, the future of Rome is bright (assuming it doesn't get torched by a hydra). Also, a few suggestions that I think could make the game even better: It would be great to unlock more types of buildings as you progress, either through research, city upgrades, or reputation. A proper harbor system could open up lots of potential—importing and exporting goods by sea would fit perfectly with the Roman setting. An in-game market where you can sell surplus goods for coins (instead of just exchanging them) would add another strategic layer, especially when you're running low on currency. And finally, the ability to trade with other nations, not just by bartering but through structured commerce (think exports with real profit), would give the economy more depth and long-term goals. Just some thoughts from a humble Roman governor trying to keep both the gods and the citizens happy! If you’re into city builders and want something with divine drama and the occasional mythical intruder, put on your toga and get building.

-Bottom Line Up Front- I've had my eye on Roman Triumph for a while now and I even spent a good few hours in the demo. First off, hats off to the devs for releasing the game with a discount. This game is an absolute gem and worth the price tag as is. Despite being early release I've found very little bugs and the content at release is pretty substantial. It certainly scratched the city building itch. -Pros- + Pretty amazing balancing considering it's an early release. + Graphics are good, zoom is great with plenty of detail. + Content on release is admirable, I'm really digging the deity component. + The production lines and upkeep system is pretty robust. You're constantly fighting your surplus with you will and need to expand and progress. I always felt like I was right on the edge of falling behind but never felt like I was doomed. I thought this was excellent. + Combat is both straight forward and rewarding. There is a "rock, paper, scissors" element to it and preparing for the incoming enemies successfully always feels like a triumph. + The walls are *chef kiss*. Put a wall on your wall. Thank me later. -Meh- + the music is fine, pretty limited and nothing to write home about. + Current production is rather simple. The devs have put the road map out and they do appear to want to expand on it. Right now...simple is the best way to describe it. + The four gods are fairly easy to keep happy. They appear to only give 2 blessing and 2 curses depending on your favor with them. I'd love to see this expanded. -Cons- + I'd certainly like to see some more content. I don't want to ruin the journey for anyone, but as of now there are only 4.5 types of enemies. + The one bug I have noticed is removing/harvesting trees does seem to get bugged which inhibits building at that location. + Some trees you seem to be able to build on top of and auto destroy while others you have to harvest. This is not consistent and a tad annoying. + I would also like to see bridges over water features as well as more flexible aquaducts. You can put the latter over roads but then you don't really see the road anymore. It feels clustered and ugly. Being able to put them over houses and what not would be a way to clear this issue. As for bridges, the map is filled with little lakes. The lack of bridges may be a design feature to make you think about your settlement design, but...I don't like it. Romans had great bridges. Give me bridges.

Absolutely loving this game so far. You’re trying to keep your people happy, your gods happier, and barbarians preferably dead. Despite being in early access, it’s well balanced, controls are smooth and everything makes sense. It’s intuitive, fun, and keeps you busy without feeling repetitive. The pacing is great too, on normal speed it’s chill enough for us older gamers. Haven’t run into any serious bugs. Also, there is a surprising amount of content already. It reminds me of Banished, but better, and Age of Empires, but different – and honestly, it really stands on its own. The only downside for me is the graphics – it looks beautiful and super detailed, but after a while, especially during autumn and winter, it starts to strain my eyes. Also the edges of the map get this weird ā€œwavyā€ effect, mostly noticeable in winter, and honestly, I have no idea how to tame it (playing on ultra, 1440p, 5800X3D + regular 4070ti, getting stable 170fps). I’ve only just started, but I already know what I’ll be doing for the next few days. Will update the review if anything changes, but for now? Two thumbs up from both me and the gods.
