If you want to play it nowadays you have to set the game to compatibility mode (Windows 98 or Windows XP Service Pack 2).

My eyes are wet while writing this because RCT was one of the first games I've ever played along with the sims and theme hospital. I was only 4 when my parents bought our very first computer. I was obssessed over this game and 23 years later, I'm still having a blast while playing it!! Playing childhood games brings me so many good memories. My mom would sit next to me and watch me play. RIP mom, RIP child me

Buy the "RollerCoaster Tycoon Double Pack" and play both games using OpenRTC2. It's the best way to play RollerCoaster Tycoon currently. I have thousands of hours through OpenRTC2 easily.
