Haven't played very many roguelikes, but this one is pretty good. There's quite a few different systems all interacting with each other here, and the ultimate "optimization problem" has multiple solutions, meaning the possible strategies you can develop are also pretty varied. My only real complaint is that there's a LOT of upgrades, and it feels like not all of them are really necessary or make the game more interesting. But that's a pretty minor issue.

Maybe the greatest game to hurt your head with. Game play that is so simple and complex. A true love hate experience 10/10

I have over 1000 hours into Balatro. It's basically Solitaire if I were my dad in 1997. This game rivals Balatro. Why? The variability. Choosing multipliers with 5 dice or other passives with 1,000 dice opens up a massive amount of possible runs. Great game. One thing, I would like the ability to start a new run from the pause menu while playing a game. Right now we have to go back to the main menu then start a new run.

Roll is a fantastically made dicebuilder with a crazy amount of replayability, there are so many build styles and strategies to perfect to make number go up. Very good solo dev who deserves the support ~

This is a dice building game. Roll dice, your points total goes up and then you use your points to buy improvements - higher values on your dice faces, extra dice, various abilities like score multipliers and rerolls. As you go on, more complex abilities start to appear, and you need to keep track of what you've got and what you're aiming for. All your games start out from the same point (usually one standard dice) - this isn't one of those games where you buy permanent advantages and newcomers can't possibly get onto the leader board. On your first game, you have as much chance of getting the perfect range of abilities as anyone. You won't manage it, because you lack experience in knowing what works with what, and when you should buy a particular ability. But it could happen, and you'll improve as you play and learn what's available. Better scores come through your skill and learning rather than just playing another twenty games and unlocking some mega-booster talent. Other good points are the relatively recent weekly challenges and the short game option. The downside (for me) is the increase in the number of abilities available and how complex they are, either on their own or in combination with each other. When the game first came out, the possibilities were much fewer and you could decide how you wanted to build your dice pool. Now, it's got to the point where you aim for one particular idea, and if you never get the right option come up, you're not going to get to the top. The dev is still very active and updates the game on a regular basis, and each new version has some new ability for you to try to get to grips with. I'm sounding rather negative here, I know, and it sounds very 'They changed it so it sucks now' - I do still enjoy the game and play regularly. The fact that the dev is active should never be considered a bad thing, and he is always trying to improve game balance. Overall, it's fairly cheap, I've had my money's worth out of the game many times over, and I do recommend it.
