Really enjoyed my time playing Rogue Trooper, I was a big fan of 2000AD comics and loved reading Rogue's stories and this game put me right at the heart of the story. Great gameplay and a decent story. For the stuttering issues people have been experiencing, I found putting the game on an NVMe drive stopped the stuttering for me, not sure why. Didn't need to run it in any modes to help... Food for thought if you have an NVMe in your system. If you're a fan of Rogue Trooper or just like a good 3rd person cover based shooter, pick this up.

When I was asking around about old school shooter games, one of my friends recommended this one to me and I said I'd give it a try. And I loved this game! Pros: -The weapons and the crafting system -The dead compatriots' personality chips still being with you and keeping them alive, while cheering you on as you go and helping you around -The gunplay is enjoyable as well. -The sound design (lots of sounds are from one of Rebellion's first born: Sniper Elite, and many can be recognized) -The environment, I dont know much about the comic, but it looks to me like it's a really good adaptation Cons: -A portion of one level isnt well optimized, with so many framedrops and freezes, luckily its a short one and can get through it fast -Seems a tiny bit short, but a respectable campaign time nonetheless Definitely recommend this game! And once again, kudos to Ionutz (the friend who recommended me the game <3 )

A ok port of a really old game, i can't even recall what era this was, late ps2 or early 360 i'm not sure but its origins aren't why you're here. A solid example of old school shooter direction and ideas and why they worked pretty well even when they were strictly paint by numbers like this game is. Its full of tropes, camp, over the top nonsense and gratuitous violence. In other words its good. The controls are sadly not the greatest, i feel like this game was meant for a controller but the PC port doesn't support any controllers inherently. you have to force it and program a controller yourself. The keyboard controls suffice just fine but it feels like something's missing. Sound and acting are a bit...C tier but suffices just fine, i never heard anyone asleep at the recording booth like some games. The mechanics are pretty solid given its age. We've got cover mechanics including blind fire, you can precisely aim grenades ala gear of war, a sniper mode for your main weapon (that starts off very shaky but gets smoother as you upgrade), melee kill moves and suprisingly fluid dodge rolls in any direction. I actually find myself wondering why many of these mechanics aren't commonplace in modern shooters. Rogue Trooper feels like "Warsploitation" if that makes sense taking all the ancient tropes of war movies and rolling them into this little production. It doesn't take its story seriously and neither should you, but it DOES take its level design and mechanics seriously resulting in a fun ride through the trenches.

I can recommend this game if you are looking for an old school "PS2/xbox" linear shooter. It plays well and the optimization for modern systems is fine. The remake of this game has some positives but some negatives too so its probably better to just play the original game. What i found awkward was the strafing. It felt like you are on rails but nothing too serious. Also, there is no button to reload your weapons which is kinda weird to just wait for your weapon to reload by itself, even though it makes sense as in game's lore i guess, plus changing between weapons feels slow and uncomfortable. The game was easy enough at hardest difficulty, so if u want a challenge, you have to finish the game first to be able to unlock the max difficulty. Game's length was average for an linear fps and pretty straightforward. The story was okay (i havent read the comics).
